The certified surgical technologist works under the direct supervision of the registered nurse circulator. They function as a member of the surgical team performing assigned duties of the surgical technologist in the scrub role. Possesses knowledge of aseptic technique and applies this while participating in surgical procedures, coordination of care of instruments, equipment and supplies. Applies knowledge of concepts necessary for maintaining integrity of the sterile field. They may not administer medications or perform any I.V. procedures. They may provide labeled medication to the surgeon for administration. Provides care to all age groups.
Requirements
High school graduate or equivalent, be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program, and maintain current certification through acquisition of mandatory contract hours of continuing education as approved by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST).
Willingness to change job assignment(s) as needed to meet staffing/schedule requirements. Able to respond to hospital within 30 minutes from receipt of call for unplanned surgical care.
