Clinical Psychologist Job Overview:

  • Civilian position supporting the Naval community
  • Medical Home Port initiative for the Primary Care delivery program that seeks to implement a new model of patient and family centered health care delivery for primary care that is team-based, comprehensive, and designed to fully meet the complete primary care health and wellness needs of patients
  • Provide consultative behavioral health care for all enrollees in the Patient Centered Medical Home Port (MHP)
  • Identify, treat, manage, and follow up with behavioral or psychosocial difficulties experienced by patients in the
  • Medical Home Port Clinic.
  • Provide timely and succinct feedback to primary care physicians and/or primary care managers (PCMs) regarding
  • consultations findings and recommendations.
  • Apply knowledge and experience in the relationship between medical and psychological aspects of health and
  • disease while engaging in behavioral health care consultation with enrollees and PCMs.
  • Apply knowledge in diagnostic issues related to psychological disorders resulting from, or intensified by, injury or
  • disease while engaging in behavioral health consultation with enrollees and PCMs.
  • Apply the biopsychosocial model of assessment to the primary care setting.
  • Formulate diagnostic and treatment recommendations and presents findings to treatment teams (i.e., physicians,
  • social workers, psychologists, Corpsmen, and nursing staff, as appropriate).
  • Apply knowledge of psychological assessment, psycho-diagnostic evaluations, and psychotherapy. Demonstrate
  • specialized knowledge of evidence-based treatment for general behavioral health problems (e.g., depression and
  • anxiety) within the primary care setting. Apply knowledge of evidence-based treatment for areas of behavioral
  • medicine (e.g., chronic pain, obesity and sleep problems).
  • Provide concise documentation of care and recommendations in patient's medical record
  • Provide appropriate behavioral health interventions within the provider's training and expertise.
  • Determine the appropriateness of the patient receiving treatment in the primary care setting and assists with
  • implementation of treatment plans.
  • Formulate behavioral health interventions appropriate to primary care setting and assists with patient implementation
  • of prescribed treatment plans.
  • Provide brief follow up consultation following treatment conclusion, including relapse-prevention education.
  • Provide and teach curriculum content for classes that promote education and skill building to enhance enrollee
  • Proactively collaborate and integrate with members of their MHP team, other departments, and other directorates to
  • achieve optimal care for the patient in the MHP model.
  • Maintain effective communication with staff, patients, families, and other departments. Facilitate communication
  • between the patients with other providers/departments. Communication avenues may include: asynchronous
  • messaging to improve communication, telephone consultations and other non-traditional means.
  • Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities.
  • Attend and/or comply with all annual training classes
  • Actively participate in the command's Performance Improvement Program.
  • Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.

Clinical Psychologist Job Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD).
  • Graduate from an American Psychology Association accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • • Internship/Residency: Successful completion from an internship in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association.
  • Certification: BLS - American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
  • one-year experience as a clinical psychologist
  • Licensure/Registration: Have and maintain a current license to practice. Any U.S. state.
  • Ability to obtain facility security
