Job Summary The Systems Administrator is responsible for daily support of the Empower network and standalone computer systems that support all Quality Control laboratories at the Melrose Park facilities. Coordinates the installation and maintenance of the stand-alone computer hardware and software within user departments. Communicates all hardware and software problems to the appropriate user. Profiles network user accounts, troubleshoots hardware and software problems, and provides general user support. Responsibilities Maintain administrator support for the Empower network specific to the Melrose Park site exclusive of IT’s responsibilities for system backups and support. Confer with users to define and eliminate hardware and software problems in network and standalone systems. Provide change control support to the user community with new instruments need to be added or modified. Provide a high level of computer hardware and software technical support to all users. Develop and maintain system design specifications as required. Maintain an inventory of all computer hardware and software purchased and licenses by the user community and provide related reports to the QA Manager upon request. Log information on general network performance, server health, user requests and incidents, and project status in accordance with software procedures. Review operational systems for their compliance to standards and software upgrades. Validate changes in system hardware and software in accordance with approved software procedures. Administer security for all network attached and standalone computer systems. Ensure that all critical data on all computer systems are protected and recoverable in the event of a system failure by backup to removable media or other approved means. Create and maintain documentation for all infrastructure related procedures, application and systems. Audit network for compliance to cGMP regulations. Follow software procedures to ensure compliance among all systems. Ensure data backups on network and stand-alone systems are performed as scheduled. Job Requirements An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or Science related field 3 years of related experience required. Effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills are required. Strong technical writing skills required for Change Control and Work Order documentation. Legible handwriting. Experience in project leadership is desirable. Knowledge of Good Documentation Practices. Installation of networking devices, computer hardware, and peripheral devices requires a level of technical expertise so related tasks may be performed independently. Standard operating procedures must be followed during all phases of hardware installation and maintenance. Knowledge of analytical laboratory software (Agilent, PerkinElmer, Metrohm, etc.) a plus.
