We have an immediate opportunity for a Director of Information Technology (IT) to oversee the operation of the IT department and to ensure it aligns with the business objectives of the organization as stated in the firm’s IT Strategic Plan. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), This individual is accountable for the planning, coordination, direction, and designation of all operational activities of the IT department and for attaining all IT service level agreements for the user community within the organization. The Director of IT will work closely with the CIO and stakeholders in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

This is a hybrid opportunity based out of our Buffalo, NY office. 

About The Job

  • Participate in IT Department operational and strategic planning, including fostering innovation, planning projects, and organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources, monitoring project status and reporting thereon to management
  • Oversee operation of Service Desk, manage internal staff and external vendor relationship to ensure alignment with business processes, tactical planning, and strategic vision.
  • Benchmark, analyze, report on, and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the IT infrastructure and IT systems.
  • Work with Security Committee and vendors to implement, enforce, and audit security policies of systems, networks, and information. 
  • Define and communicate project milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to executive team, department leads, support staff, and end users.
  • Implement all internal IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
  • Authorize and oversee the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, and support of all hardware and software based on department needs.
  • Participate in budget review process to ensure compliance with stated goals, guidelines, and objectives.
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, and procurement efforts.
  • Oversee negotiation, administration, and performance management of vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.

Requirements

  • University Degree or higher in Computer Information Systems, Business Administration or related field or equivalent applicable work experience. 
  • 7 years’ experience managing and/or directing an IT operation.
  • Good understanding and technical knowledge of current network, PC, and server operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards; Proficiencies with VMWare, Microsoft, and Cisco technologies a plus.
  • Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis through to day-to-day management.
  • Knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations.
  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures. 
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to and implement changes quickly.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical personnel. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with staff, vendors and peers
  • Strong attention to detail and solid follow-up capabilities
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to conduct and direct research into IT issues and products.
  • Ability to learn and support new systems and applications. 
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • Some inter-office travel may be required
