Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is Hiring a Training & Development Manager Near Seattle, WA

The Training and Development Manager plays a vital role in helping employees onboard to the Hutchinson Cancer Center’s mission and values and builds critical skills for maintaining effective team environments, focusing on both the development of employees and people managers.

Reporting to the Director of Organization Development & Learning, the Learning and Development Program Manager leads a team to oversee all aspects of HR Learning, from design to vendor management, to the implementation and evaluation of e-learning, virtual and in-classroom programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Learning Team, setting expectations for quality, providing growth and development opportunities, and managing the department’s performance.
  • Align priorities to an overall learning strategy tied to competencies and current organizational priorities. Work with key stakeholders throughout the organization to assess learning needs and collaborate on initiatives involving organization-wide training requirements.
  • Provide expertise on the learning methods to be used in building specific competencies.
  • Oversee the organization’s new employee and manager orientation programs, partnering with stakeholders on priorities for the onboarding experience and necessary tools development.
  • Oversee the evaluation of all learning department offerings. Apply project management skills to manage learning projects and new learning initiatives.
  • Lead the support for the organization-wide Learning Management System (LMS) strategy in collaboration with the LMS Administrator.
  • Lead the design and implementation of in-house created virtual and in-person employee and manager development programs.
  • Manage the process for choosing and administering vendor-created programs. Manage external vendors and oversee contracts.
  • Manage and monitor the learning budget in collaboration with the Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in a training or learning and development role.
  • 5 years’ experience in instructional and/or learning experience design and delivery.
  • 3 years in people management.
  • Skills in facilitating virtual and live instruction to leaders and employees at different levels of the organization and to groups of all sizes.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex issues and formulate recommendations to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of methodologies associated with in-classroom, virtual, and e-learning design, and the effective application of these methods for different levels in the organization and different content areas.
  • Knowledge of learning program evaluation methods and experience implementing evaluation methods.
  • Experience developing eLearning in authoring tools (i.e., Articulate 360 – Rise and Storyline, Adobe Captivate, etc.).
  • Experience working with learning management systems - Cornerstone experience highly preferred.
  • Advanced project and program management skills.
  • Effective organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Robust technology skills with the ability to quickly learn new applications.
  • Skills in identifying and collaborating with stakeholders throughout an organization. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., Adult Education, Learning Design, Instructional Design, etc.) or comparable education or experience.
  • Experience in leadership development programming.
  • Knowledge and experience working in a healthcare environment.

In addition to job duties at Fred Hutch, this position also requires access to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, which requires COVID-19 vaccination without exceptions.Accordingly, as a condition of employment for this Fred Hutch position, newly hired employees must provide proof of vaccination before their first day of employment.
