NOW HIRING: Communication Specialist

Grant-Funded Position

Under the direction of the Director, the Communication Specialist plans, organizes and implements all communication, marketing and media relations activities for the department to assure a comprehensive approach to promote and raise awareness about the programs and services provided by Franklin County Public Health. They establish and continue positive relationships with the public and mass media on behalf of FCPH as designated.

The Communication Specialist focuses on providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of Franklin County Public Health.

Duties Include:

  • The Communication Specialist writes material for press releases, presentations, legislative materials, talking points, marketing materials, web copy, internal communications and letters as needed. Creates PowerPoint presentations and other documents.
  • Can serve as PIO (or Lead PIO) for public health emergencies and other situations as
  • Assists in scheduling and conducting media interviews and Prepares and distributes materials for media outlets.
  • Disseminates public information to Assists in writing web copy and maintains tone, voice and language consistency for FCPH websites.
  • Proofreads and edits FCPH documents and presentations as assigned. Develops materials for program campaigns, including for radio and television, customer brochures and online messaging. Coordinates social media efforts for FCPH programs and initiatives, including updates and responses.
  • This position interacts with the public in person, by phone and by email; they will respond to questions and requests for information or public records.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism or a related field is required.
  • One to three (1-3) years of experience required and technical proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and similar tools are preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail and accuracy, customer service skills, ability to learn new information quickly.
  • Valid Driver’s license and ability to meet insurability requirements.
  • Some evening and weekend hours

Hiring Wage Range: $27.96/hour - $32.15/hour. This is a non-exempt position.

Franklin County Board of Health was established in October 1919 as a result of the Great Influenza, the most devastating pandemic flu on record. The authority of any health department in the State of Ohio is granted by law and is specifically detailed in the Ohio Revised Code. In 2010, the agency's name was changed to Franklin County Public Health (FCPH) to more accurately reflect all the services performed. Our Board is still known as the Franklin County Board of Health.
