Animal Care and Research Technician (ACRT)

ACRTs will provide high quality care for our pet partners. Individuals in this position support new and existing canine research activities through animal care, hygiene and sanitation, food service, data collection, groundskeeping, some equipment operation, and other tasks as required. Feeding trials and nutrition research are the focus of the kennel; there is opportunity to learn and help with the research process.

ACRT typical schedule:

• Full Time, Appx 35-40hrs: Schedule would vary and be similar to Part Time day requirements, depending on company needs. Weekdays (7:30-4:30) and weekends (7:30-11:30). One weekend off every few weeks in rotation.
• Part Time, Appx 20hrs: Three weekday mornings (7:30-11:30) and both weekend mornings. One weekend off every few weeks in rotation.
• Weekend Only: Saturday & Sunday (7:30am-11:30am), could work into more hours if the candidate desired and is a good fit.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Accurately prepares daily food, including weighing & recording
• Assists with recording animal body weights with precision
• Cleans and disinfects canine group housing units, outdoor enrichment and airing areas including poop scooping
• Coordinates with other team members to let dogs in and out of airing yards daily
• Washes and sanitizes dishes and ensures cleanliness of feed/kitchen areas
• Administers medications, vaccines, and routine medical treatment as prescribed by a veterinarian
• Applies behavioral principles as part of a learning or treatment process to modify and improve animal behavior as necessary
• Operates, calibrates, and checks instruments including scales
• Assists in canine exercise trials as necessary
• Monitors canines for general wellness
• Helps with miscellaneous tasks when needed (yard work, etc)
• Learns, understands and adheres to Four Rivers Kennel's Animal Care and Use policy & Four Rivers Kennel's Standard Operating Procedures

Both weekend days and holidays are required. Must be dependable and able to handle large friendly dogs. Must be able to lift 50lbs. Lots of poop, lots of dogs.
