Foundation for Jewish Camp is Hiring a Junior Accountant Near New York, NY

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Junior Accountant is primarily responsible for day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, payroll, and account analysis. This individual assists in creating efficiencies, implementing improvements, and creative problem-solving. The Junior Accountant regularly interacts with all levels of FJC staff and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. This position currently is based in New York, requires at minimum 3 days/week in the office, and reports to the Controller.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In collaboration with the Controller and Finance staff, prepare for yearly audit. Work with auditors during field work to ensure efficient and accurate audit.
  • Prepare and disseminate 1099s.
  • Serve as primary administrator on bill-pay software; support staff on bill paying inquiries and provide training, as needed.
  • Ensure proper documentation and coding for monthly corporate credit card statement is obtained.
  • Play key role in cash receipts process: make bank deposits, gather deposit documentation, and record in QuickBooks.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll. Prepare associated journal entries and enter into QuickBooks.
  • Perform bank reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure all financial records are maintained in an organized manner.

Additional responsibilities, as determined by the Controller.

CREDENTIALS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance expected.
  • 2 years accounting experience required, preferably at a similarly-sized nonprofit.
  • Either tech-savvy or a quick study, when it comes to collaborative tech tools. Advanced proficiency in Excel and computational skills required. Proficiency in QuickBooks and/or Concur preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, Salesforce, and/or Asana a plus.

COMPENSATION DETAILS

The salary range for this position is $60,000-65,000. FJC offers a comprehensive benefits package, including: medical, dental, and vision coverage; a company-paid Group Medical Bridge plan that provides additional out-of-pocket coverage for a variety of medical services; an Employee Assistance Program, which includes robust mental health and wellness resources; commuter benefit; Flexible Spending Account; 401K plan; 15 days paid vacation annually in year one; paid parental leave; early closure on Friday afternoons and major holiday eves; and office closure for all major Jewish and secular holidays.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

The interview process may consist of up to three rounds of conversations with members of the FJC team, including:

  • Round 1 Interview with FJC’s Controller & Talent Director
  • Round 2 Interview with 2 close collaborators of this position
  • Round 3 Interview with 1-2 members of FJC’s leadership team
