The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant supports indirect and direct school based occupational therapy services to assigned students within the private day school setting. Participates as an active, effective member of the students team in addressing medical and educational needs of assigned students.

Duties include: 

• Provide occupational therapy services to students by direct contact or consultation to address range or motion, sensory strategies and techniques, fine and gross motor activities as related to IEP goals under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist OTR.
• Maintain daily records of treatments and document progress notes.
• Consult and collaborate with teachers and teams by suggesting ideas for classroom interventions. Train other staff as needed.
• Use appropriate methods and techniques to accomplish objectives and present them in an orderly progression.
• Recognize, monitor and provide for individual student differences in response to occupational therapy activities and adjust provision of services accordingly.
• Serves as a resource to teachers, educational staff and parents to problem-solve and create therapeutic strategies to enhance environmental access and participation in learning for all students.
• Seek information needed to perform/improve job functions by attending PLC meetings, continuing education opportunities and/or in-services.
• Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
• Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
• Maintain professional conduct and appearance.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of experience in a classroom setting working with severe/profound students needing intensive supports.
• At least 1 year working with children with sensory impairment specifically visual impairments. (preferred)
• AA degree or higher in an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
• License in Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA/L) issued by the Arizona Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
• Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).

Physical Requirements: 

• Ability to move body in many different ways in order to interact with and position students such as: standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing and pulling consistently throughout the day and in a daily basis
• Required to routinely lift a minimum of 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
• Ability to lift and carry non-ambulatory students
