Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is Hiring a Digital Communications Specialist Near Wheaton, IL

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year.

The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens.

Job Purpose

This position delivers District information via all of the District's digital media channels. This position will assist to create creative and engaging content for newsletters, social media and the District website.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Community Relations Lead to research, write and post content on District web pages and social media sites. Write and contribute to email blasts, blogs and surveys. Work with developers/IT staff to assess technical challenges in displaying content
  • Help develop and document procedures to manage web content. Stay current with best practices for web writing, social media trends, web usability, web design and industry trends
  • Edit content as it is contributed to the website by site managers and District employees responsible for webpages. Help develop an online strategy to engage target audiences
  • Assist in the review of District publications to ensure consistency of brand message
  • Write and design monthly District e-newsletter distributed to subscribers
  • Help plan and implement social marketing campaigns for specific marketing goals. Monitor social media outlets and respond on topics related to the District. Ensure message consistency across all platforms
  • Utilize SEO (Search Engine Optimization) best practices by adding metadata and relevant copy. Remain current with emerging web technologies for the best user experience
  • Manage digital assets for branding and consistency. Measure web traffic and create monthly reports
  • Perform other duties as required

Starting Salary: $47,876-$63,836

Education and Experience Required

Education: BS/BA in journalism, English, fine arts or related field.

Related Experience: Two (2) years online content strategy/development experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Knowledge Of: Principles and techniques of public relations, marketing, and journalism; District's conservation, education, and recreation mission.

Skills In: Prioritizing and managing multiple tasks and projects; communicating effectively, verbally and in writing; establishing and maintaining effective working relationship with employees, elected officials, media representatives, and the public; translating technical functions into non-technical terms; managing websites with web management software; Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop; managing social media channels and creating creative engaging messaging.
