Description

The Custodian will maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of buildings, offices, classrooms, laboratories, furnishings and equipment, as well as building entrances and exterior walkways. Ensures that custodial services meet the needs of the department and established custodial guidelines by scheduling work activities and adjusting workloads to compensate for scheduled and unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and special custodial projects.

1. Performs daily custodial duties as needed in support of the departmental mission.
2. Provides continuity of custodial services under emergency conditions or unique circumstances by performing custodial duties directly related to the emergency conditions or as the situation dictates.
3. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
4. Contributes to the overall success of the assigned department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Experience: At least four years of experience in custodial services, which includes knowledge of cleaning procedures.

• Must possess and provide evidence of high school diploma or GED certification.
• Maintain knowledge of Licensing and Performance Standards
• Must possess current State of Michigan Chauffer’s driver license.
• Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills, ability to be flexible.
• Must possess good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Good driving record.

• Strong commitment to civil and human rights.
• Knowledge of janitorial/cleaning practices.
• Ability to lift up to 45 pounds as needed.
• Ability to work in a standing position as required.
• Dexterity.
• Interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
• Oral and written communication skills.
