Position Summary

The Sr. Cost Accountant creates and maintains the company’s standard costs, analyzing variances between actual and standard costs for materials, labor, burden and overhead, estimating costs for development projects, and may be required to assist with budgeting and forecasting. In this role, the Sr. Cost Accountant assists in the month-end close activities, to include variance account analysis, journal entry creation, and performance results reporting. In addition, the Sr. Cost Accountant works cross-functionally in evaluating productivity projects and will provide support for other operational requests.

Job Duties

• Leads the process of creating standard costs for the production facility Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
• Maintains standard cost rollups for all raw materials, Work in Process (WIP) and finished good items.
• Evaluates variances between actual and standard costs for materials, labor and overhead.
• Works with Research & Development (R&D) and Manufacturing to calculate estimated cost for new product launches, as well as changes to existing products.
• Partners with Operations, Procurement and Engineering to develop initiatives and to support financial valuations as necessary.
• Provides financial analysis in support of Production Facility and corporate initiatives.
• Prepares and updates cost estimates for United States Government (USG) contract proposals and for internal product development.
• Reviews and analyzes complex bills of materials and production routings, identifying errors and proposing corrections as necessary.
• Maintains product line and cost center integrity.
• Calculates and processes necessary journal entries in the ERP system, prepares month-end balance sheet account reconciliations, provides support for year-end audit activities, and other financial accounting duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required. 

Experience Requirements

Five years of experience in Cost Accounting and standard product costing in a manufacturing environment with complex bills of materials is required.
