TYPICAL DUTIES: The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Each person is expected to help out in whatever duties are required to deliver a quality product on schedule.
1. Provides schematic design information to Lead Project Engineer, such as mechanical room sizes and requirements.
2. Incorporates design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with project team to produce construction documents.
3. Directs Entry Level/Design Engineers and reviews their work
4. Mentoring of junior staff, including Entry Level/Design Engineers and interns
5. Prepares specifications
6. Participates in company-wide special projects (BIM, Standards)
7. Participates in trade coordination
8. Provides complex design work, major services, mechanical rooms, etc. Produces sketches and systems schematics for complicated design tasks, such as layout of mechanical or electrical rooms
9. Construction Administration: Attends construction meetings and produces observation reports. Participates in final shop drawing reviews. Provides construction inspection and RFIs. Provides punch listing and/or review
10. Coordinates ceiling and wall clearances with other design professionals.
11. Selects details, which will be used on projects.
12. Documents existing conditions and perform some troubleshooting.
13. Provides code research and evaluations. Researches non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials.
14. Prepares addendums and change orders. Initiate additional service requests and turn over to PM for submittal to client.
15. Prepares engineering opinion of probable cost for mechanical or electrical systems and review contractor cost estimates.
16. Provides value engineering.
17. Participates in trade QA/QC. Reviews drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design and production standards.
Limits of Authority: Has authority to perform complex design duties under the director of the Engineer of Record and Principal. May not change the scope of work or deviate from any other part of the contractual document without Principal approval.
Relationship to Others: Works under the direction of the Lead Project Engineer to contribute to design, execute strategies, and schedule completion of design deliverables. Success is dependent on Key Functional Partnerships with Lead Project Engineer and Project Manager to ensure “zero-defect” quality deliverables.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. 2 years design experience with MEP/Consulting firm
2. 4-6 years overall experience
3. Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
4. FE required, LEED and/or PE preferred.
5. Must be proficient in the use of computer for design and must understand CAD/BIM operations.
6. Significant experience in REVIT modeling required
7.Significant experience in direct outdoor air systems (DOAS) and indoor air quality
8. General knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical system design.
9. Must be capable of working within a project team as defined in the F-T functional model.
10. Understanding and knowledge of applicable codes.
11. Keeps current on the “State of the Art” in their design specialty through review of periodicals and in continuing education.
