First United Methodist Church of Winter Park is Hiring a Chief Operating Officer Near Winter Park, FL

Description

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as a member of the Church's executive team and is responsible for leadership and management of Church core operations including, marketing and communications, risk management, facilities maintenance, finance, information technology and human resources. The position leads planning, development and implementation of operational policies, procedures, programs and services in fulfillment of the Church's vision and mission. Position carries a high degree of responsibility and judgment in overseeing the provision of high quality operational standards and efficiencies. The COO is expected to be an experienced and efficient leader with excellent people skills, strategic business acumen and exemplary work ethics.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participates as a member of the Church executive team to lead operational implementation of Church mission, vision, goals and values; engaging in strategic and business planning and implementation of key initiatives, policies and best practices;
  • Directs, evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of operational functions, leading an engaging staff in the development and implementation of plans for the infrastructure of systems, processes and personnel designed to accommodate church objectives;
  • Ensures effective budget management and controls throughout the organization, meeting annual and long-term revenue and operating margin goals by strengthening financial controls and processes, improving data management for decision-making, improving operating performance through performance metrics and accountability, and managing the Church budget;
  • Oversees internal workflows and organizational development, ensuring appropriate communication and information flow throughout the Church staff (lay and paid) and fostering a collaborative, connected operational culture;
  • Provides timely and accurate analyses of budgets, project proposals and industry trends in all operational areas in order to support Church objectives and goals;
  • Leverage technology and process innovation, ensuring Church systems, processes and software appropriately support effective operations and maximize productivity, efficiency and resource allocation;
  • Manages assigned personnel, providing effective leadership and coaching to all staff, ensuring the highest levels of performance management and actively participating in all personnel-related matters such as recruiting and performance management;
  • Oversees all staff communications and information distribution, ensuring message continuity, accuracy and consistency;
  • Other as deemed necessary by Church Leadership.

Requirements

  • Support FUMCWP's vision, core values and commitment to inclusion, inspired by a personal faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Active, spiritually mature member of the United Methodist Church, supplemented by regular participation in the FUMC Winter Park worship congregation.
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum ten years demonstrated operational experience in a leadership or relevant role; non-profit industry preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of non-profit operations, management and processes, preferably in a religious organization.
  • Exceptionally high emotional intelligence with the ability to connect, motivate and inspire.
  • Demonstrated competency in strategic planning, data analysis and operational performance metrics.
  • Effective negotiating, decision-making, analytical and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent time management, communication and organizational skills with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with Church staff, parishioners, vendors, committees and contractors.
  • Thorough understanding of business functions such as human resources, finance, non-profit fundraising, capital development, communications, marketing and information technology.
  • Advanced technological skills, including computer software, internet and mobile telecommunications programs and applications.
  • Proactive, progressive-thinking and positive approach and attitude.
