Job Title: Accountant II

Position Code: A11E Exempt

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.

A. Position Summary

Under direction of Assistant Controller or designee, responsible for organizing, maintaining and reviewing financial accounting systems, including but not limited to accounts payable, general ledger, accounts receivable, fixed assets, employee payroll, cash disbursements, financial statements, and contracts/invoices.

B. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists in performing, monitoring, and reviewing all accounting functions;
  2. Assists in ensuring accurate, timely and appropriate controls over;
  • Accounts Payable,
  • Accounts Receivable,
  • Fixed Assets,
  • General Ledger,
  • Payroll,
  • Money Management,
  • Financial Information, and
  • Other Accounting Functions

3. Interacts with internal and external personnel regarding accounting functions;

4. Assists in managing internal and external audits;

5. Assists in research, methodology and implementation of company budgets;

6. Assists with the training, mentoring and coaching of fellow departmental personnel;

7. Completes professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations;

8. Takes responsibility and accountability for all accounting functions;

9. Maintains strict confidentiality;

10. Performs other duties as assigned;

Requirements

C. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor degree in accounting or equivalent required. Work experience may be substituted for degree at the hiring manager’s discretion.
  2. Minimum of four (4) years of financial accounting work experience or equivalent required
  3. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel and Word preferred

E. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. Knowledge of finance and accounting functions, including budgeting, credit, investments, internal controls;
  2. Knowledge of computer systems, spreadsheet and financial systems programs and applications;
  3. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, clinical staff, auditors, and the public;
  4. Ability to work under multiple priorities;
  5. Ability to work creatively with management and co-workers to achieve objectives;
  6. Skill in identifying and resolving accounting and financial problems;
  7. Knowledge of management practices to assist co-workers;
  8. Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives;
  9. Knowledge of clinic's strategic business objectives;
  10. Skill in analyzing financial data and preparing appropriate related reports;
  11. Ability to work creatively with management and department staff to achieve objectives;
  12. Ability to work as a team member;
  13. Records maintenance skills;
  14. Ability to develop and maintain filing systems;
  15. Skill in relating organizational objectives to financial policies on costs, fees, credit, etc;
  16. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly;
  17. Skill in the use of operating basic office equipment;
  18. Ability to follow routine verbal or written instructions;
  19. Ability to maintain confidentiality;
  20. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
  21. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops;
  22. Knowledge and familiarity with compliance program. Cooperate fully and comply with laws and regulations;

H. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS/WORKING CONDITIONS

A person in this position has sufficient time to complete most tasks although under pressure depending on organization demands. There are frequent opportunities to relax from any physical exertion or to change position in work activities.

  1. Physical Effort and Dexterity: Good dexterity to operate personal computer, and files. Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
  2. Machines, Tools, Equipment required to be operated: Capable of using office machines and personal computers for word processing, data entry and retrieval.
  3. Visual Acuity, Hearing, and Speaking: Must be able to read computer monitor output. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately for work and safety compliance.
  4. Environment/Working Conditions: Work is mostly inside in a controlled environment. Normal safety precautions and practices are required. Position may require travel throughout the Albuquerque metropolitan area. Work regularly scheduled Monday-Friday, although weekends may be required to meet deadlines.
