Fincantieri Marine Group currently has an opportunity for a Shipyard Process Improvement at the Green Bay, Wisconsin location.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Shipyard Improvement Engineer focuses on shipyard improvements for our three Wisconsin based shipyards in Marinette, Sturgeon Bay, and Green Bay. He/she improves welding productivity by identifying variables that inhibit productivity and establishing production targets for different types of welding. In addition, this position will work with production to rollout and execute a welding productivity expectations program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Document welding standards and best practices and assist in training operators.
  • Participate in the Nonconformance process, including acting as a liaison between departments, conduct root cause analyses, leading implementation of solutions, and analyzing data to identify improvements.
  • Conduct time studies to improve flow and productivity and optimize manning.
  • Daily support of production, answering production technical and process questions, blue print reading, etc.
  • Create/update work instructions on equipment/processes as needed and train operators
  • Partner with Maintenance on the Preventative Maintenance of assets.
  • Evaluate functionality and capabilities of new capital equipment to determine optimal ways to utilize assets.
  • Determine required equipment specifications for new capital equipment purchases.
  • Author capital requests as needed, with supporting documentation (NCR, rework data, etc.).
  • Investigate new technologies, (welding, automation, etc.) and present to leadership.
  • Work with Design engineering team to determine critical measurements to be checked in process of production, determine needed frequency of inspections, ensure inspections are being completed and documented.
  • Implement in production quality and productivity monitoring by defining critical dimensions/process outputs to be monitored to ensure product quality and implement monitoring SPC (Statistical Process Control), etc.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement/A3 initiatives in production.
  • Abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering related field and 6 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering or manufacturing field of competence.
  • This requirement can also be met with an Associate's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering or manufacturing field of competence
  • Six Sigma or LEAN training desired.

SKILLS:

·Must have technological skills proven by verifiable and specific work experience, technical publication, or patent issue.

·Must have a working knowledge of standard shipbuilding rules and regulations, as well as the associated regulatory agencies and the review & approval process.

·Must have current computer skills relevant to the field of competence.

·Must have ability to work within schedule and budget restraints.

·Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor.

·Must have effective written and verbal communication skills.

·Must have ability to maintain confidentiality.

·A basic Earned Value Management System competency is a bonus

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. When entering the shipyard, the work environment is not climate-controlled and there is exposure to moving equipment, etc.
