Job Description: The Safety Specialist will be responsible for the safety compliance within the Waterloo, IA Distribution Center. As a Safety Specialist, you will support safety and quality initiatives within our facility and help identify and implement improvement programs to ensure compliance with all safety regulatory, corporate, and OSHA requirements. If you have a background in warehousing or production environments and experience in safety leadership, this is an excellent opportunity to join an industry-leading organization! This role is based in our Waterloo, Iowa location and onsite presence is vital to perform essential duties of the role. Responsibilities: Cultivate positive safety culture by re-enforcing the “Expected Safe Behaviors” & Global safety rules Work with management to mentor and coach associates on safe behaviors Responsible for implementation and tracking of all safety and compliance training (52-week training, New Hire Safety Orientation, etc.) and any analytics/reporting, as needed Effectively communicate and roll out all corporate initiatives while leading with organizational change principles Perform multiple daily walks-throughs of each area of the facility to ensure safe behaviors and to identify any unsafe conditions Ensure all Environmental and HazMat requirements are being followed Conduct multiple formal safety observations each month and enter results into OSHENS Coordinate and Co-Chair the Local Safety Committee Partner with people managers to effectively manage injuries and incidents by ensuring timely reporting in OSHENS, root cause team investigation, and that corrective actions are identified and implemented Collaborate with the Health and Safety Director to find opportunities for improvements Ensure all PIT Operators are fully certified to operate the specific equipment Ensure all items are inspected as required, including ladders, eyewash stations, emergency exit signs and lights, slings and chains and cranes, etc. Ensure proper work environment and infrastructure is maintained and that the facility is prepared for internal audits, participating in audits as needed Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of safety experience in a manufacturing, distribution or production environment, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, required Degree or certification in a safety-related program, a plus Prior experience leading or managing teams or projects, preferred Ability to influence people and work with cross-functional teams and at all levels of the organization Ability to collaborate and work effectively with diverse groups, incorporate the input of others to improve our processes, and align with internal requirements Committed to developing and empowering others and experience accomplishing goals through the skills of persuasion, influence, and negotiation Must have excellent communication skills (listening, written, verbal, presentation) Necessary computer skills with experience in Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint A passionate, team player who enthusiastically partners with leadership and associates to strive for continuous improvement Benefits: Ferguson provides meaningful benefits programs and products to our associates and their families—geared toward benefits, wellness, financial protection, and retirement savings.
