Position Summary

Federal Data Systems is looking for a Senior System Administrator located in Ft. Meade, MD.

Essential Job Functions

• Directs and implements hardware and software installations; plan, direct, and implement system upgrades; and plan and direct implementation of hardware and software patches. 
• Evaluates software and security-related problems; propose and direct implementation of solutions to resolve issues; and plan and direct the implementation of system backups and recovery.
• Develops processes and standard operating procedures to maintain system configurations, user accounts, permissions, and datafiles, directories and folders; manage system health and status to ensure availability, reliability and data integrity; conducts training, and maintains documentation.
• Provides front line customer support for IT related problems; and provides input to the design of systems and mission architecture.
• Analyzes and resolves complex problems associated with server hardware, applications and software integration.

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Due to the nature of this position and the information that employees will be required to access; U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Must have demonstrated experience in service-based, web-based, and non web-based application design and development, to include experience with back end database architectures, relational and cloud-based, and full lifecycle software development. Exceptional knowledge of Linux shell and standard utilities, and common Linux security tools.
• Eight (8) years combined experience in each of the following:

System backup/restore procedures, system security practices, system tuning, user administration, software and hardware installation and maintenance, file management and system troubleshooting, operating systems (e.g., Windows, Unix/Solaris, LINUX) and storage filers (e.g., NetApp, Isolon) system accreditation support, and system configurations. 

• Two (2) years demonstrated experience leading teams on small to mid-size software development activities.
• Experience provisioning, managing, and monitoring AWS cloud environments.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration using platforms such as Kubernetes, Docker, Docker Swarm, Rancher, AWS compute, storage, serverless, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud architecture.
• Experience administering Linux-based server environments deployed to virtual infrastructure.
• Required Security Clearance: TS/SCI Full Scope Poly.
•  DoD 8570 compliance – at minimum, IAT Category, Level II.

Education or Equivalent:

• High School diploma/GED with 16 years of experience, OR
• Associate degree in computer science with 12 years of experience, OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or information systems or related discipline may be substituted for eight (8) years of experience, OR
• Master of Science degree in computer science, computer engineering, or information systems or related discipline may be substituted for six (6) years of experience.

Working Conditions:

Work is typically based in a busy office environment and subject to frequent interruptions. Business work hours are normally set from Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, however some extended or weekend hours may be required. Additional details on the precise hours will be informed to the candidate from the Program Manager/Hiring Manager.

Physical Requirements:

May be required to lift and carry items weighting up to 25 lbs. Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, stretching and bending throughout the workday.

Successful Completion of a Background Screening/Check/Investigation will be required as a condition of hire.
