Job Description

What’s the opportunity?

As a Staff Data Engineer, you will be responsible for working with a team of passionate engineers, managing high-performance data. Most importantly, you will be a valued member of the wider engineering team, and what you do will be used by customers in homes and schools around the globe. You will tackle new and challenging problems by building a new generation of data processing and analytics systems for filtering, monitoring and security used at schools. You will actively participate in architecture; design and development of features for the company’s data processing and analytics platforms.

This is a hands on role where you will solve complex data engineering and analytics problems and build the necessary support on the backend, whilst being able to design complex test cases for the system and work with teams to suggest and implement improvements to the development processes

Here's how you'll do it?

  • Create data driven solutions to meet software and data requirements 
  • Identify, evaluate, select, and prove out new technologies and toolsets
  • Lead and direct the work of others in real-time data dependent project
  • Collaborate with software development, business teams and other teams to establish solution requirements and design platform solutions that address current and future needs
  • Identify and plan for future roadmap enhancements that evolve as business needs evolve
  • Create solutions that adhere to security, retention, and availability policies for critical, sensitive data
  • Identify areas of development and need
  • Provide targeted training and exploration for team members
  • Train and mentor data engineers on standards and best practices

Qualifications

What you will bring:

  • Supporting a 24x7 real time data pipeline, with effective monitoring and issue resolution
  • Design and develop data pipelines on a large scale in Google Cloud, BigQuery, Dataflow, Beam SDK and other modern technology tools.
  • Strong skills with SQL, and at least one of: Java, Python, and Golang
  • Skilled in data modelling
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes is a plus
  • Experience building pipelines and downstream data assets
  • Experience in RESTful APIs and API Communication is a plus
  • Experience with Cloud platforms such as Google, Azure and AWS
  • Experience with real time data capturing environments 
  • Able to troubleshoot system-level integration and performance issues
  • Experience in DevOps, CI/CD and Agile environments

You'll have:

  • Experience in a similar role is essential
  • Minimum of 5 years Data Engineering experience in an enterprise environment
  • Strong software engineering experience
  • Experience of mentoring teams
  • Ideally would have operated in a variety of roles within the Data space
  • Bachelor’s degree in technology or evidence of professional development
  • Fast learner and eager to absorb new emerging technologies
  • Can-do attitude on problem-solving, quality and ability to execute
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience in building data pipelines is a plus
