Family Health Services is Hiring a Remote Medical Records Technician

Description

Will work from home after trainings are complete.

SUMMARY:

Collects, maintains, and makes available to authorized users timely, accurate, secure and complete patient health records. Control the release of medical information from patient medical records in accordance with applicable standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED; and a minimum of 6 months of relevant work experience required.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Customer Service skills.
  • Basic Receptionist skills.
  • Skill in the use of operating basic office equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge in computer literacy.
  • Word processing and/or data entry skills.
  • Ability to prepare, print and electronically file routine correspondence, faxes and/or other basic written material.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, release of information and medical record maintenance activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains medical records operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  2. Retrieves, scans and sends patient paper and electronic records.
  3. Provides authorized individuals with timely access to patient information without compromising the security of patient records.
  4. Ensures medical record availability by routing records to provider PAQ’s, and other authorized support staff.
  5. Maintains completed records and facilitates physician review and signature of the record. Files completed and signed records in patient electronic file according to established FHS guidelines.
  6. Reviews received patient records for completeness. Ensures the presence of provider signatures/initials. Ensures each sheet of patient information contains appropriate identifying information.
  7. Follows release of information guidelines and ensures minimum necessary protected health information is used only for purposes identified or as required by HIPAA law and not further disclosed without patient authorization.
  8. Resolves medical record discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
  9. Provides medical record information by answering questions and requests of patients, hospital staff, law firms, insurance companies, and government agencies.
  10. Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential; following release-of-information protocols.
  11. Maintains the stability and reputation of FHS by complying with legal requirements.
  12. Keeps equipment operational by following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures.
  13. Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  14. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
