Overview

The Activity Assistant supports the planning and implementation of quality leisure/social events program designed to assist senior Assisted Living and Memory Care residents in maintaining their personal potential physically, socially and mentally. 

• Casual/on call
• Must pick up minimum of 3 shifts per month, 1 being on the weekend
• Weekend rotation as needed

Arbor Glen is located blocks from downtown Lake Elmo Minnesota, conveniently north of Hwy 94 and in between the cities of North St. Paul and Stillwater. As one of our newer senior living communities it features 84 units between the independent, assisted living and memory care apartments. Responsibilities/Job Description

• Assists, coordinates, and may plan leisure programs, activities, exercise classes, and special events for older adults in an assisted living residence.
• Encourages resident participation, reports changes in residents mood and physical status. 
• Promotes independence and helps develop socialization
• May help escort residents to activities outside of senior living community 
• Other duties as assigned by Activities Director

Qualifications

Required:

• Working knowledge of basic Microsoft /computer programs.
• Ability to interact effectively and empathetically with senior living residents/tenants.
• Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be comfortable leading activities with elderly residents.

Preferred:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred, but willing to consider others with the right aptitude and/or previous related work experience.
• One to three years previous experience either; working with the elderly, leading activities, or working in a therapy or recreation role preferred or have formal related education.
• Preference given to candidates with previous experience with memory loss care.
• Work experience in a customer service setting.
