FA | Frost-Arnett is Hiring a Medical Coder Near Aiken, SC

POSITION SUMMARYThe Medical Coder processes patient data such as treatment records and related insurance information. The position includes day-to-day input, handling and entering of procedures, diagnostic codes for services rendered, and insurance information received. They also are tasked with coding a patient’s diagnosis, along with a request for payment from the patient’s insurance company. The candidate should possess high critical thinking skills, the ability to analyze and locate correct coding codes, and a refined judgment to handle them appropriately. The candidate must be able to work overtime hours as needed. 
 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Analyze patient charts carefully to know the diagnosis and represent every item with specific codes.
• Must be willing and able to communicate with supervisors and physicians regarding coding issues and assist them with their questions.
• Work requires continual attention to detail in data entry of information related to patient medical services.
• Must be able to read and translate from medical records.
• Compile and organize data regarding patient information for input.
• Input patient information into allocated fields on the consumer’s file.
• Responsible for passing hospital audits of accounts.
• Responsible for maintaining production and quality at acceptable levels.
• Must maintain knowledge of medical changes when they happen in the industry.
• Develop good client relationships in the course of daily duties.
• Collect and distribute coding-related information and billing issues.
• Provide accurate answers to queries on coding.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Minimum High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior PC and keyboard knowledge is a mandatory requirement.
• Ability to type at a minimum of 40wpm with a 95% accuracy rate.
• Certified in ICD9, ICD10, and AAPC, or AHIMA certified.
• Two (2) or more years of experience in the coding field along with continued Certified Educational Credits each year.
• Preference given to those applicants with experience in any of the following:
o Professional Coding for Pediatrics, Psychiatry, or Orthopedics
o Single Path Coding for Evaluation & Management, Operating Room, or Emergency Department.
• Ability to compute basic math calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
• Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
• Communicate concisely and effectively both verbally and written; utilizing proper grammar and telephone etiquette is required.
• Must possess interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.
• Position continually requires demonstrated self-confidence, skill, and diplomacy.

• Ability to write business-related documents such as letters, emails, and other business correspondence as needed.

• Ability to converse and respond to common inquiries from senior management and all other internal customers.
• Ability to write business-related documents such as letters, emails, and other business correspondence as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, listen, and review. Employees must use their hands to utilize a computer keyboard and mouse and operate office equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms, as well as a lift to 20 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
An employee works in a temperature-controlled office environment. The employee sits at a desk during regularly scheduled work hours, answers and makes calls using a standard telephone, types on a standard keyboard, and reads and comprehends information from a computer terminal and/or written resources.
