Overview

EXPLEO USA is looking for an Industrialization Engineer to join a dynamic and expanding team in Orangeburg, SC.

The Industrialization Engineer in the Defense Airframe business line is responsible to deliver the best industrial solution to give the business the edge over its competitors. The Industrialization Engineer defines the manufacturing systems in the pre–Life Cycle Gate (LCG) 7 phase to maximize the appropriate use of technologies and methods. Defense Industrialization Engineers are assigned to work closely with their respective assigned Product Group Director. A key responsibility includes creating a Zero-Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) culture through the training and application of GKN’s ZDM methods for the entire Defense Manufacturing Engineering and Industrialization organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of the manufacturing system prior to LCG 3. This is a 2-part responsibility and includes:
    • A full understanding of GKN’s Industrial capabilities at each site where the statement of work could be performed. This includes current material and process experience, capabilities (i.e., Cpk’s, cost of quality), facility, machine and manpower capacities.
    • A full understanding of the customers’ requirements, collaborating with Industrial Engineering to design the factory layout, leverage of H1 & H2 technologies, deploying lean manufacturing principles when considering TAKT and flow. Also responsible for delivering equipment and tooling solutions.
  • Close engagement with the Chief Engineer (CE) and Chief Manufacturing Engineer (CME) for design-build or CME for Build-To-Print programs to ensure Design-For-Manufacturing principles are employed
  • Monitors industry for advancements in relevant materials and processing technologies
  • Delivering the industrialization concepts within the bid process including both Recurring Cost (RC) and Non-Recurring Costs (NRC) for the industrial solution with the CME
  • Ensures a smooth transition from the design phase (pre LCG 3) to the industrialization phase (LCG 3 - 6) within the Operational side of the business and its Industrialization Manager
  • Works closely with the program CME to ensure the industrial concept is capable in the post LG3 to LG7phase
  • Functional leader of all IE skills and resources that belong to and support the Defense business line programs
  • Developing the ZDM mind-set and culture into the Manufacturing Engineering organization through implementation of GKN’s standard ZDM tool suite and the APQP process
  • Champions and sponsors technology insertion into the businesses that will give tangible benefits
  • Monitors condition and capability of the existing technology and provides advanced recommendations to the BL when Capex refurbishments, improvements or replacements are warranted
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance to the LCG industrial review process for all Programs within the BL
  • Develops close relationships with the assigned Product Group Director and Program teams to deliver manufacturing engineering solutions in line with customer requirements and expectations.
  • Responsible for NPI performance KPIs and to highlight concerns / issues, key responsibilities, and accountabilities
  • Participates in monitoring and coordinating technologies to avoid unnecessary duplication of Capex assister sites
  • Support a robust bid proposals pre LCG 3 and creation of the bid response requirements up to LCG 7including all Non-Recurring Costs (NRC) and Recurring Costs (RC)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years’ manufacturing engineering experience
  • Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations and/or program requirements
  • U.S. persons with ability to obtain a Department of Defense Security Clearance

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Demonstrated experience with AS-9145 Zero Defect Manufacturing, or equivalent automotive PPAP experience
  • Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
  • Able to perform a site wide assessments and gap analyses and coordinate with IE's from other sites/sectors
