Description

SUMMARY:

The role of the Certified Nursing Assistant is to provide direct patient care and timely communicate the same, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, House Supervisor and/or other clinical staff in accordance with hospital policy. This may include assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s), bathing, toileting, eating, ambulating and the taking of and recording of specific diagnostic equipment such as blood pressure machines, blood sugar devices, etc. – under the direction of a licensed Registered Nurse.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

May include, but is not limited to the following:

Job Specific:
  • Provides patients' personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.
  • Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
  • Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; recording intake and output information.
  • Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients' call lights and requests; reporting observations of the patient to assigned nurse.
  • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping patient information confidential.
  • Serves and protects the hospital community by adhering to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and CIHQ standards.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations; maintaining certifications.
  • Enhances nursing department and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Job Function:

Qualifications


Education

High School diploma or G.E.D.

License/Certification

Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of practice and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association. Certifications must be maintained throughout employment.

Experience

Previous experience in a healthcare setting perferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Participates in or conducts company-wide sponsored training to safeguard against improper use and disclosure of patient’s protected health information. Monitors and ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, state and federal regulations and Accreditation Standards.

  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the hospital, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Maintains current licensure/certification for position, if applicable.
  • Consistently demonstrates superior customer service to patients, physicians, visitors, employees, and any other individuals with whom they may come in contact.
  • Consistently follows departmental and hospital Health, Safety, Security, Hazardous Materials policies and procedures.
  • HIPAA: Conduct job responsibilities in accordance with HIPAA privacy laws, follow hospital policy in provision of patient confidentiality. Able to identify patient confidentiality issues and reports to proper hospital personnel immediately.
  • Compliance: Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with standards set forth in Code of Conduct, policy and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable standards.
