Espyr is Hiring an EAP Counselor (FT) Near Washington, DC

Position Summary: This position provides a full range of EAP services for employees, managers and the employer organization while working at employer locations.

Essential Job Duties includ.e, but are not limited to: 
  • Consistently provide exceptional and proactive services as a CBP EAP on-site counselor, based at CBP locations, ensuring smooth integration with Espyr operations and account management.
  • Provide direct counseling, critical incident response services, consultations for managers and supervisors, trainings or psychoeducational. presentations, and outreach services that create awareness of EAP services. Make referrals to treatment services where appropriate ensuring a satisfactory client experience with the transition from EAP services to treatment services. Refer to community resources as needed to support clients’ well-being and mental health.
  • Comply with all Clinical and Professional protocols, processes, and Espyr policies at all times. Understand the scope of CBP EAP services and as needed communicate that scope to external parties including clients, managers, chaplains, and peer support members.
  • Understand ESPYR’s services to CBP and other clients and our value proposition to advocate the benefits of our services to the organization and end users.
  • Consult with Espyr supervisors appropriately concerning clinical case staffing’s and high-risk cases. Maintain and manage a case load of direct service counseling clients, maintaining case records in accordance with Espyr policies and customary professional practices.
  • Create and manage productive and positive working relationships with local POCs, Chaplains and Peer Support Members in relation to the role and duties of the EAP counselor and the program.
  • Display excellent teamwork, communication, and collaboration with the CBP account manager and other Espyr staff in support of the success of the EAP services and Espyr.
  • Work in collaboration with other internal and external stakeholders displaying professionalism at all times.
  • Using a consultative approach, establish effective relationships with our clients and proactively collaborate on opportunities for product enhancement, upsell/cross-sell opportunities, and the optimization of products and services to meet the clients’ specific needs.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills to retain and service our clients and the CBP organization.
  • Records, tracks, reports on all customer/client interactions, and feedback using designated tools.
  • Maintains security of area/materials/ private information. This includes both physical/ virtual storage and filing. 
  • Plan and coordinate own work over weeks and months with an awareness of activities by other team members, areas and/or groups. Work collaboratively in developing and revising training, presentation and awareness materials.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with customers and co-workers in order to represent ESPYR’s values and standards on a daily basis. 
  • Perform daily duties, undertake, and complete related projects in area of expertise with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to pass a DHS security clearance, tier 4, non-sensitive/high risk public trust position. Tier 4 includes a background investigation (BI) that covers a seven-year investigative scope.
  • Additional related projects/tasks/duties as assigned by the position’s manager.

  • Excellent inter-personal communication, relationship building, and clinical and consultative skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, problem resolution and proactive communication (written and verbal) skills. 
  • Excellent presentation and training skills and ability to flexibly provide critical incident/ trauma response services for individuals and groups.
  • Analyzes and evaluates information; assimilates and understands incoming information and uses cognitive skills to determine direction independently.
  • Responds, answers, or directs information request on a variety of topics.
  • Adapts to shifting priorities.
  • Maintains calm facade, displays enthusiasm, and is positive even under pressure.
  • Efficient, detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a part of a team. May have minimal travel to employer sites for routine duties, or infrequent travel to other CBP or Espyr locations for specific events.
  • Must be able to perform tasks in a fast-paced environment and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proactively identifies solutions that enhance one’s performance and improves customer relations.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to learning and professional development in the behavioral health field.
  • Complies with Espyr and DHS security clearance processes and requirements, including fingerprinting and background interviews required for a tier 4 clearance.

  • Consistently demonstrates sound clinical judgement and assessment, counseling and referral skills, proactive problem solving, effective interpersonal communications, clinical professionalism, personal accountability, teamwork, and commitment to our values and standards.
  • Exhibit’s dependability in workplace attendance, documentation, and commitments. 
Experience, Education and Licensing:
  • Masters or Doctoral degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology.
  • Five or more years’ professional experience in the mental health/ substance abuse/behavioral health field and an active unrestricted State License in the behavioral healthcare field. 
  • Cultural competency in working with law enforcement clients.
  • Familiarity with Employee Assistance Programs and Services, and in assessing referring substance misuse clients to appropriate treatment resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills; competency with PowerPoint and other training and presentation technology.
