Equitable Hiring Group is Hiring a Volunteer Coordinator Near Portland, OR

Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator
Reports To: Director of Operations
Classification: Non-Exempt
Pay Grade: $23-$28 per hour
Benefits: 100% of medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability
insurance. Paid sick time, vacation, holidays, and a continuing education stipend.

SUMMARY: The Volunteer Coordinator reports to the Director of Operations and is responsible for coordinating volunteering and engagement for racially privileged allies. Tasks include community outreach, volunteer onboarding/training, volunteer management, data management, volunteer appreciation, and equity education. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who is interested in continuing to build our volunteer program.

We develop Black, Brown, and Indigenous leaders to create powerful strategies that build community resilience and inspire transformational change. Guided by our 12 Principles of Hope, we organize programs which help to advance our goals to transfer power and capital to Black, Brown, and Indigenous Oregonians. As a nonprofit incubator, our programs evolve to meet critical needs in the community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ally Mobilization (90%)

  • Update the volunteer engagement plan to raise awareness of Brown Hope and its volunteer opportunities.
  • Survey Brown Hope staff and volunteer leads to assess needs and create opportunities for volunteer assistance.
  • Recruit, interview, and place applicants to volunteer on projects.
  • Schedule and coordinate volunteer orientations, competency trainings, and skill-building activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation.
  • Maintain accurate records and processes for volunteer onboarding, off-boarding, accounts, and permissions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding volunteer roles, expectations, and trainings.
  • Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to collaborate with community partners such as other non-profits, local business and community leaders for collective impact.
  • Serve as an active member of Brown Hope’s Action Team, which actively mobilizes racially privileged allies to engage in our work.

Other Responsibilities (10%)

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Operations or leadership.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two or more years of volunteer coordination experience, including environments with 50 volunteers
  • Understanding of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities, including historic and contemporary
  • Experience with conflict resolution, restorative justice, and proactive accountability with professional relationships
  • A flexible problem solver, good at striking the balance between innovation and continuity, deliberation and action, independence and collaboration
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal direction, showing initiative, creativity, self-discipline, effective time and project management skills
  • Ability to work in a high stress, fast paced environment and able to troubleshoot quickly
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care models
  • Be a culturally competent leader: eager to learn, champion for diversity, a good listener, and capable of working well with people from different backgrounds and identities
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including excellent oral, written and listening communication
  • Integrity, credibility, and passion for supporting the communities Brown Hope serves
  • Experienced and competent in online tools for remote team work, communication, and documentation (particularly G Suite, Zoom, Slack)

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is usually performed in an indoor office environment, or remote home
office environment, with long periods at a desk. Work is oriented to community
service and subject to constant work interruptions. Position requires the
employee to regularly facilitate meetings and deliver presentations to community
members, and other business partners, in both small and large groups.
Employees may work under the stress of continual contact from clients,
community members, co-workers and business partners, and the pressure to
meet deadlines. Requires a flexible work schedule and may be required to work
evenings and weekends. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Position may require the ability to travel regionally for work activities.
