CLASP’s Operations and Finance Team
CLASP’s Operations team works in partnership with our program teams and other key stakeholders to ensure they have the information required to effectively deliver on our mission.

Our team provides support to the organization on finance, reporting, HR, IT, office infrastructure, and management. We use best-in-class applications to ensure we work efficiently and with the right tools. As CLASP’s global portfolio continues to grow, we are expanding our team to ensure we have adequate capacity to deliver outstanding service to our stakeholders. About the Role- Payroll Associate
CLASP seeks an experienced Payroll Associate to handle the payroll, review employees’ expenses, and coordinate the communication between CLASP’s offices, and third-party partners for all financial and operating-related affairs. This is a newly created position.

The Payroll Associate’s primary responsibility will be to process the USA office’s payroll, monitor other country offices’ payroll process, review, and approve employee’s expenses. To succeed in this role, you must have strong mathematical skills, knowledge of USA payroll and taxes, and accounting knowledge on travel expenses. Experience in international payroll is a plus.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Process Semi-monthly payroll for the USA office
  • Setup new hire’s payroll profile and maintain employee’s records in the payroll system for the USA office
  • Maintain and update payroll-related records and schedules
  • Prepare workers compensation sheet and manages annual audit
  • Monitor Kenya, India, Europe, Indonesia monthly payroll process, and communicate with Chartered accountants for accuracy.
  • Create state accounts and work with USA payroll service provider for all USA payroll tax-related matters
  • Ensure payroll and tax documents are accurate and in compliance with governmental laws on payroll accounting and taxes
  • Monthly timesheet tracking
  • Setup annual holiday schedules in the Time and Expense keeping system
  • Monitor paid and unpaid leaves
  • Review and approve employees' credit card expenses and reimbursement requests
  • Answer employee questions concerning payroll and expense reimbursement
  • Coordinate meetings and communications between USA office, country offices, and third-party partners for all F/A and operating related areas such as annual audit and filings
  • Administrate the Time and Expense keeping system and the credit card expense management software

What You’ll Need:

  • 3-5 years of accounting/payroll experience
    • International payroll experience is a big plus
  • An understanding of local and governmental rules about payroll
  • Strong computer skills such as system and software knowledge, especially Excel
  • Ability to work independently in a time-sensitive environment
  • Good customer service skills
  • Experience with ADP a plus
  • FPC or CPP certification a plus

Compensation and Location
CLASP provides its employees with a highly competitive salary that is benchmarked annually with other non-profit organizations in the DC metropolitan area. CLASP also provides a comprehensive benefits package, including fully paid health insurance for individuals and competitive rates for families/dependents, unlimited leave and all federal holidays, an impressive match of employee contributions to the 403b retirement plan and a collegial office environment that supports professional development, wellness and flexible telecommuting options.

This position is full-time, and you must be already based in, or be willing to relocate to, the Washington D.C. region. The expectation for this role will be in the office at least five days a month. Since we are living through a global pandemic, we can be flexible on relocation timelines and may be able to offer a small amount of relocation assistance. Compensation for this role starts at $65k and can increase based on the candidate’s level of experience.

The overall evaluation process will look to follow this anticipated timeline:

  • Late July: Selected candidates asked to complete short answer questions
  • Early August: Video interview with CLASP Staff
  • Mid-August: Finalist candidates will be asked to complete a timed trial assignment
  • Late August: Finalists will participate in a multi-team member panel interview 
    • Candidate references will also be checked at this step
  • Early September: Offer extended
