Job Title: Data Manager
Reports To: Director of Operations
Pay Grade: Hourly, $27-$39/hr
Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance, eleven

SUMMARY: The Data Manager is supervised by the Director of Operations and is responsible for managing Brown Hope’s data systems, which are especially critical to the healthy operations of Brown Hope’s Black Resilience Fund and Fundraising and Development programs. They collect and organize data, analyze information, draw conclusions based on their findings, and work with other Brown Hope staff to develop effective reports for relevant stakeholders. Focused attention to detail, comfort working with technology and new systems, familiarity with database design and information organization, as well as the ability to understand abstract concepts is essential to perform well in this role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Management: Oversee the day-to-day use of data systems within Brown
Hope.

  • Supervise Brown Hope staff and volunteer use of data components of Brown Hope’s data platforms, especially Airtable, GivePulse, and EveryAction, to ensure the data entered is accurate, reliable, and of high quality.
  • Availability to provide training and technical assistance to Brown Hope staff and volunteers on databases and software used by Brown Hope, such as Airtable
  • Document training and SOPs as necessary to provide staff and volunteers with clear instructions and data policies where relevant.
  • Monitor organizational information storage and databases, ensure compliance with legal and organizational standards and implement practices to protect Brown Hope from security breaches and data losses.
  • Explore opportunities to improve information and data management systems on at least an annual basis and provide recommendations to the CEO, COO, and CIO
  • Collaborate with Brown Hope staff and volunteers in using organizational data to produce graphs, infographics, and other multimedia assets
  • Collaborate with Brown Hope staff and volunteers to compare and analyze statistical information to identify patterns, relationships, and problems
  • Collaborate with Chief Impact Officer and Communications Coordinator to prepare data to be included in reports to supporters and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Chief Impact Officer and others to design data collection and management practices in consistency with program goals
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to identify opportunities to optimize workflows or work processes using automation, integrations, or technology that supports the goals of a program or department.
  • Provide training and coaching to Brown Hope staff and volunteers on how to read, interpret, report properly, and discuss Brown Hope’s data
  • Serve as a coordinator for major organizational data projects
  • Support programs in collecting, maintaining, and reporting all needed data related to, but not limited to: reporting on program outcomes, documenting program finances, communicating accurate and timely information to community members or program stakeholders

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide the Director of Operations with ongoing reports on data manager goals, progress and plans on at least a monthly basis
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the CEO, Chief Operating Officer, or Chief Impact Officer.
  • Represent the organization at assigned events, speaking roles, and training

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic familiarity with principles of relational databases and either coding or no-code tools
  • Experience or familiarity managing information, communications, or “source of truth”, to promote cohesive work on a multi-member team.
  • Experience and understanding of basic statistics and analysis, as well as
  • creating and interpreting charts.
  • ● Experience and understanding of standard practices when designing,
  • collecting, and analyzing surveys or other data collection processes. Bonus
  • if you have familiarity with research methods, user research, program
  • evaluation methods, or equitable evaluation frameworks.
  • ● Previous data and/or information management experience.
  • ● Understanding of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities, including
  • historical and contemporary.
  • ● A flexible problem solver, good at striking a balance between innovation
  • and continuity, deliberation and action, independence and collaboration.
  • Be a culturally competent leader: eager to learn, open to diversity, a good listener, and capable of working well with people from different backgrounds and identities.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and teamwork skills, including excellent oral, written, and listening communication
  • Integrity, credibility, and passion for supporting the communities Brown Hope serves.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and apply best practices of data security.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate computer software and services, including Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Slack, and AirTable.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is usually performed in an indoor office environment, or remote home
office environment, with long periods at a desk. Work is oriented to community
service and subject to constant work interruptions. The position requires the
employee to facilitate meetings and deliver presentations to community members
regularly and other business partners in both small and large groups. Employees
may work under the stress of continual contact with clients, community
members, co-workers, and business partners and the pressure to meet deadlines.
Requires flexible work schedule and may be required to work evenings and
weekends. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The position may
require the ability to travel regionally for work activities.
