Description

JOB TITLE:  Senior Accountant 

STATUS: Full-Time 

SHIFT: Days 

LOCATION: Episcopal Church Home

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  •  A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent work experience.
  •  Four to seven years long term health care experience.
  •  Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, contracts and the analysis and report of financial data.
  •  Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Internet use and computerized financial operations.
  •  The ability to create analyses that provide data for decision-making. 
  •  Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  •  Knowledge of the laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to hospital and nursing home operations and the potential related financial impact. 
  •  Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, vendors and the general public.

The Senior Accountant prepares and analyzes financial statements of Episcopal SeniorLife Communities. He/she develops integrated revenue/expense analyses, projections, reports and presentations. He/she creates and analyzes monthly, quarterly and annual reports and ensures financial information has been recorded accurately. The financial analyst also identifies trends and developments in competitive environments and presents findings to senior management to aid in the organizational decision making process. He/she performs financial forecasting and reconciliation of internal accounts. 

 JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Coordinate month-end close activities to be able to generate, review, and distribute monthly financial statements to department heads by the 5th and 10th business day of the subsequent month.
  • Resolve financial statement questions with department managers and senior management, as necessary.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis to subsidiary ledgers and/or other supporting documentation.
  • Create appropriate reports to meet all of the Organizations’ needs.
  • Work with the Controller, Assistant Controller and other finance department staff to generate reports with the least amount of duplication of effort possible.
  • Work with the Controller, Assistant Controller and other finance department staff to develop appropriate operating policies and procedures for the Organization.
  • Utilize financial knowledge, judgment and expertise to participate in planning, coordination and execution of organizational objectives.
  • Maintain an understanding of industry trends to inform senior management, as necessary, to those which have an operational impact.
  • Coordinate information needed to prepare and file all required cost reports by the applicable due dates.
  • Prepare the RHCF-4 for submission by the due date, as necessary.
  • Prepare the MR cost report for submission by the due date, as necessary.
  • Maintain an understanding of the rate setting methodology for Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement and the related financial impact to the Organization.
  • Prepare all reporting necessary to comply with DOH, HUD, NYSHFA, BONY and any other funding sources.
  • Monitor cash activities and prepare cash requirement forecasts.

This position may/will be required to provide direct care or have access to resident property or belongings. 

The majority of essential job duties are performed indoors, in a normal office environment. Employee may be exposed to temperature fluctuations. 

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP: The work is performed within established guidelines, and requires periodic supervision. The employee exercises initiative and independent judgment to effectively perform the essential job duties of this position.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR OTHERS: The employee has no direct responsibility for others.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: Shall be fully acquainted with all safety policies and procedures of the Church Home. Takes an active role in all fire drills during the shift and/or emergencies for internal and external disasters as monitored by supervisor and incident manager. Must comply with facility in-service requirements.
