Job Description The Senior Operational Risk Manager will be based in New York and is a new position in the Company that will report directly to the Operational Risk Principal of Sompo International. The successful candidate will be responsible for the delivery of highly effective operational risk management practices in North America with a focus on establishing an open risk culture and an emphasis on learning and continuous improvement. The remit of the role will include 2nd line review of underwriting control, underwriting operations as well as the functional areas supporting the North America Commercial Insurance platform. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the North America CEO and wider management teams to provide ongoing assurance regarding the operational resilience of our businesses in the region. Responsibilities include: Implementation of the Sompo International operational risk framework in North America working closely with the first line to review and assess the effectiveness of governance and risk control across the business. As part of this, support management with the development and maintenance of robust risk registers as well as the effective performance of Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RSCAs). Sompo International Holdings – Brief to Search Senior Operational Risk Manager Support an effective incident and near-miss reporting process in the region, including the delivery of training and education to staff as well as wider guidance and support on incident management. In coordination with the North America CEO and wider leadership team, identify potential candidates for deep dive control reviews where the business is seeking specific guidance and recommendations for improving the control environment. Also lead any group-wide thematical reviews within the region. Support the monitoring of key change initiatives, including business expansion plans, new distribution channels and digital platforms as well as major system / technology changes. Support the business owners of these change initiatives to perform risk assessments and with the ongoing tracking of execution risk and issues. Work closely with the other control functions in North America including compliance and internal audit to ensure there is strong communication, information sharing and an efficient and consistent approach to assurance activities and reporting in the region. Production of high quality and impactful operational risk reporting for presentation to a variety of audiences (e.g., SBU Leadership, Group Management Risk Committee, Legal Entity governance forums) Skills & Experience: Experienced risk professional with a strong track record within the insurance industry providing control assurance in relation to the core areas of the business including underwriting governance, underwriting operations, and other key support functions. Strong communication skills with the ability to operate fluently and effectively within a diverse multinational organization.
