Empower Federal Credit Union is Hiring an Accounting Manager Near Syracuse, NY

Role: Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Accounting Department. Responsible for the development and implementation of systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying, and reporting financial information. Responsibilities include ensuring complete, accurate and timely completion of the financial and accounting records for the credit union making sure the records are in compliance with GAAP and credit union practices. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: E 20% Manage the monthly close of the credit union’s financials. Prepare income and balance sheet statements, consolidated statements and various other accounting statements and reports. Maintain financial security by establishing internal controls and proper segregation of duties within the Accounting department. E 20% Responsible for the Direct management of staff including all related Human Resources activity including but not limited to; coaching, training, hiring, performance requirements, goals, scorecards and metrics. E 15% Manage the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including but not limited to developing and implementing new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department; and creating management tools that effectively monitor accounting processes, problem-solving, quality control, and reporting. E 15% Evaluate and analyze financial reports and records, making studies or recommendations relative to the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures. Produce various insightful analyses and financial reports for management. E 15% Function as Project Manager for Accounting Department projects and inter-departmental projects. Coordinate accounting matters with other departments and locations. Guide other departments by researching and interpreting accounting policy. Apply observations and recommendations to operational issues. E 10% Support staff through ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of issues in situations where only limited understanding to the impact to Accounting exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. E 5% Responsible for the preparation of documentation to support the internal and external audits and examinations throughout the year as well as the year-end comprehensive audits. Assist in the formulation/execution of credit union policies, objective and projects as well as supporting the activities of the VP of Accounting/Controller and SVP/CFO. Performance Measurements: 1. See Dayforce Performance Management for Goals. Knowledge and Skills: Experience Eight to ten years of similar or related experience. Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting required. Interpersonal Skills Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Other Skills 1. Solid knowledge in most areas of accounting and the ability to work alone. 2. Must have a working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing software; must be able to use a PC and all types of general office equipment. 3. Must process excellent verbal and written communication skills. 4. Must have good supervisory skills. 5. Occasional travel may be required. 6. Professionalism in appearance, dress and attitude a must. 7. Comply with all credit union/departmental training requirements.
