emerjence LLC is Hiring a Software Quality Assurance (QA) Tester Near Washington, DC

SUMMARY: This job involves testing software applications to make sure they work correctly and meet quality standards before being released to users at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). You'll run various tests, find and report problems, and work with developers to fix these issues. The goal is to ensure that the software is reliable and performs well. Performs application testing in accordance with prevailing standards and methodologies - has sound working knowledge of all phases of testing including initiation, data creation, test plan development, test execution, output review, defect identification and resolution, and test closeout. Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills.
DETAILS:A Tester is responsible for evaluating the functionality, reliability, and performance of software applications and systems. This role involves executing test cases, identifying defects, and ensuring that software products meet quality standards before they are released to end-users.
Key ResponsibilitiesTest Case Execution: Execute predefined test cases manually or using automated testing tools to verify software functionality and performance.
Defect Identification: Identify, document, and report software defects, inconsistencies, and issues using bug tracking tools.
Test Documentation: Create and maintain detailed and accurate records of test cases, test results, and defects.
Regression Testing: Perform regression testing to ensure that previously developed and tested software still performs correctly after changes.
Collaborate with Development Teams: Work closely with developers to understand software requirements, assist in troubleshooting issues, and ensure defects are resolved.
User Interface Testing: Test the user interface for consistency, usability, and compliance with design specifications.
Performance Testing: Conduct basic performance testing to evaluate the software's responsiveness and stability under various conditions.
Test Environment Setup: Set up test environments, including hardware, software, and network configurations, to ensure accurate and effective testing.
User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Support: Assist in user acceptance testing by providing test cases, data, and guidance to end-users.
Continuous Improvement: Participate in efforts to improve testing processes, methodologies, and tools.
Required Skills And QualificationsEducational Background: High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is a plus.
US Federal Contracting Experience: Experience working as a government contractor, ideally for the IRS, SSA, or HHS CMS.
Testing Knowledge: Basic understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and practices.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to identifying and documenting defects and inconsistencies.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand and evaluate software behavior.
Communication Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to effectively document and communicate testing activities and findings.
Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with test management and bug tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Bugzilla) and basic knowledge of automated testing tools.
Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team, contributing to shared goals and projects.
Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new testing tools, technologies, and methodologies in a rapidly changing environment.
Preferred Skills And QualificationsCertifications: Relevant certifications in software testing (e.g., ISTQB Certified Tester).
Experience: Previous experience in a software testing role is an advantage but not required for entry-level positions.
Automation Knowledge: Basic understanding of automated testing tools and scripts.
Agile Methodologies: Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments, with an understanding of iterative development and testing processes.
