Preference is local to the Scottsdale, AZ area but this role can sit 100% remote anywhere in the US.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced attorney eager to build the in-house legal function at Emerge. You will be responsible for ensuring the legal operation of our business as we continue rapid growth, and will be interfacing directly with senior leadership and the board of directors on issues ranging from day-to-day operations to long-term company strategy. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and oversee the in-house legal function at Emerge
• Maintain compliance with all applicable laws, and guide company decision-making along the best legal path
• Collaborate with outside counsel on specialized issues
• Notable areas of responsibility include: shipper and carrier policy development, capital raising (debt and equity), Board communication, vendor and partnership contract negotiations, insurance and claims management, tuck-in acquisition execution, contractor management/policy, and employee matters

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

• JD from ABA-accredited law school.
• Admission in good standing to AZ bar (preferred), or to at least one other U.S. state.
• 6 years of relevant legal experience
• Freight and/or logistics industry experience
• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Referred Qualifications:

• Prior startup experience, specifically helping to build a high-caliber team
• Buy-side M&A transactional experience
