Summary
The Director of Rehab manages all activities of the Rehab & Wellness Department including clinical assessments, record keeping, compliance with treatment plans, case management, customer service, compliance with State licensure requirements and facility policies and procedures.Provides direct patient care in his/her disciplinary field (i.e., Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, or Speech-Language Pathology).
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
1.Provides overall coordination of all activities and services provided by the therapy department.
2.Communicates with the interdisciplinary team on the admission of patients/residents requiring skilled rehabilitative services and timeliness of screening process.
3.Develops, maintains, and supervises other therapy team members’ compliance with effective system of therapy/treatment documentation which conforms to clinical and billing policies and procedures and meets requirements for third party payer documentation and reimbursement.Reviews and approves billing.
4.Oversees the implementation of patient/resident care programs ensuring the effective utilization of therapy procedures and appropriate intensity of services.
5.Determines and schedules staff relative to patient/resident needs to achieve therapy clinical and operational benchmarks.Keeps Administrator and Regional Rehab & Wellness Manager informed of open positions and recruitment needs.
6.Responsible for maintaining therapy area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
7.Participates in customer service programs, patient/resident referral marketing andbusiness development as well as conferences, facility meetings, consultations, care plan meetings, and educational programs designed to improve patient/resident care and staff performance.
8.Responsible for interviewing therapy candidates, conducting performance reviews, and managing the performance improvement process.
9.Manages all members of the Rehab & Wellness staff.
10.Demonstrates working knowledge of and compliance with the facility Compliance program, policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations.
11.Demonstrates compliance with protection of patient/resident health information and company sensitive information including compliance with company policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
12.Shall ensure that all rehab employees under their direct supervision receive training in and comply with the facility Compliance program, policies and procedures, applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations. As the manager, must administer appropriate disciplinary action for violations in the above in consultation with the facility Administrator.
13.Ensures that fiscal, clinical and operational goals are achieved.
14.Provides direct patient care, as necessary, in accordance with the job description for the discipline.
Other Duties
1.Performs other duties as assigned and allowed by State Practice Acts and regulation.
2.For Directors of Rehab employed by a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) that has a Shared Services Agreement with a Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH), the Director of Rehab & Wellness will provide operational oversight for the LTACH as defined in the Shared Services Agreement. Clinical oversight of LTACH Rehabilitative Therapy Services will be provided as defined in the Shared Services Agreement.Additionally, dependent upon the Director of Rehab’s therapy discipline, clinical oversight will be provided by either the Director of Rehab, the Lead Therapist, the Regional Rehab & Wellness Manager, or as defined in the Shared Services Agreement.
Qualifications
1.Graduate of an accredited professional therapy school and eligible for licensure in the state in which the program is located.
2.Prior experience in long-term care and management is preferred.
3.Ability to work flexible work hours to support state and federal resident care requirements.
