Embrace Families is Hiring a Direct Support Professional Near Orlando, FL

When a child can’t remain safely in their home, we partner with local agencies to support them through foster care, adoption, mentoring and beyond to ensure that children in bad situations move toward brighter futures.

Starting salary: $16.43 - $18.40 per hour (dependent on experience)

*Multiple openings available - We are currently looking to add 6 Direct Support Professionals to our team!

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

This position directly supports youth that are in unstable placements in the foster care system. This position helps with everyday tasks such as daily living activities (ADL's). These include but are not limited to daily grooming, meal service, risk mitigation and following any applicable behavioral management plans as defined by the youth’s individual needs.

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Actively engage with youth at all times and provides all necessary support to meet their needs, including all direct care and service requirements. Follows active treatment/programming schedule.
  • Identifies hazards or dangerous behaviors in the environment and takes immediate action to avoid, mitigate or eliminate, and report hazardous conditions or unsafe behaviors.
  • Ensures the safety of self, residents/consumers, co-workers, families, guardians and visitors at all times.
  • Implements electronic and paper documentation of training needs including programming, incident reporting, data collection and behavior observations.
  • Demonstrate competency of required training.
  • Follow good vehicle loading and unloading procedures as well as ensure compliance with good vehicle safety practices. Maintain a driving record in good standing with company standards.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with case managers, families, and with community service resources, including medical professionals, therapists, law enforcement staff, school officials, neighbors, and religious and youth organization representatives utilizing referral sources as necessary. 

Specific to 3rd Shift:

  • Maintain a safe, clean, cheerful, home-like atmosphere for the youth.
  • Responsible for completing each item on the Overnight Staff Assignment List every night. The Overnight Staff Assignment List includes regular bed checks for the health, safety, and wellbeing of the youth.
  • Overnight staff are responsible for the morning transport of residents to the ADT program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • 2 years’ experience in providing social service, child development, family services or working in a childcare setting.

PREFERRED:

  • 1 year experience preferred working with Intellectual/Developmental Disability populations.

REQUIRED:

  • Conducts self in a professional manner with colleagues, peers, and clients. Demonstrates professional behavior toward clients consistent to the enhancement of the client’s dignity and well-being. Upholds established policies and professional standards of conduct.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be capable of completing assignments with minimum guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to objectively coach & mentor youth through complex & difficult issues
  • Ability to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to represent and promote positive and solution-oriented behaviors within their team and the organization.
  • Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence & sensitivity to population serve. 
  • Ability to travel.
  • Maintain a driving record in good standing with company standards.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

  • Thorough Background Screening upon hire including FBI, FDLE, Local Law check, Employment Reference check, DMV check, Criminal Records check, Social Security Trace & Drug Screening. FDLE check will be run at least every 5 years.
  • On-call assignments- Yes
  • Travel- local: 80% per week, long-distance: 5% per month
  • Attend at least 15 hours of in-service training annually.
