Overview

Primary Wilderness Therapist 

 Deschutes Wilderness Therapy (DWT) is an effective and exciting alternative for struggling teens, young adults, and their families, and is the premier wilderness therapy intervention. We are consistently challenging the national therapy frontier. DWT is the home of cutting-edge trauma-informed care & wilderness intervention.

DWT is currently seeking applicants for a Primary Wilderness Therapist at our beautiful Bend, Oregon location. We would like for this to be a full-time, year-round position, but we are open to flexibly hiring a top tier therapist who prefers a seasonal or remote/local work schedule. The Primary Wilderness Therapist is responsible for overseeing the clinical care and treatment of Deschutes Wilderness Therapy clients and their families. This includes weekly individual therapy, group therapy and family support/coaching/therapy phone calls. The Primary Wilderness Therapist is the lead therapist responsible for overseeing clinical care of DWT clients and ensuring follow through of the clinical model. The Primary Wilderness Therapists work a flexible schedule based on programming needs but is generally in the field two days a week. At Deschutes, the Primary Wilderness Therapist may carry a caseload of up to 7 wilderness immersion clients.

Responsibilities

  • Direct clinical care and supervision of clients
  • Outreach relationships with Educational Consultants and referral partners, individual marketing and sharing of expertise
  • Completion of clinical documentation, support and training of field staff and active participation in the treatment team
  • Participates in clinical intake, case management, individual and group supervision, treatment and clinical team meetings and ongoing training
  • Provide excellent customer service during weekly phone calls with clients' families and referral partners
  • Participates in regular outreach, marketing, and taking part in conferences to spread the word about the great work that is happening at DWT and in your group. An A-Player Primary Wilderness Therapist should expect to attend several professional conferences per year and to make a quarterly direct marketing trip with outreach team members to see referral partners

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in counseling-related field required 
  • State licensed or proof of license eligibility in Oregon 
  • 21 years old 
  • 3 years post-graduate experience working in the field with at-risk youth 
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills 
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for extended durations and can walk at least 1 mile over uneven terrain 
  • Must be able to pass a Background Criminal Investigation 
  • Must hold a valid driver's license with clean driving record 
  • First Aid, CPR, and Wilderness First Responder certification preferred
