Job Summary

The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Manager for our diverse laboratories (cell culture, Microscopy, molecular analytics) with strong project management, organization and interpersonal skills who is enthusiastic and able to take initiative. The laboratory manager will supervise the lab operational staff and manage the research laboratory spaces on a day-to-day basis. The Laboratory manager will organize and maintain the laboratory spaces, plan and assign projects, monitor work, identify and solves issues/problems. The Laboratory manager will also provide guidance, technical expertise and make recommendations for lab improvements. The Institute is providing high quality research and requires the Laboratory manager to be part of the quality control process by writing and reviewing SOPs as well as ensuring QC implementation in the laboratories.

Excellent communication and organization skills are a must. The ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, work effectively in a diverse team with scientists, professionals, administrators, and support personnel is essential.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Manage and maintain BSL2 laboratories and inventory
  • Assist with and supervise various lab operation projects
  • Assist others with and perform lab techniques
  • Work closely with researchers to provide effective solutions to support research projects
  • Facilitate effective communication across internal departments (facility, finance and IT) and vendors.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, budgets, and maintenance schedules
  • Establish and improve procedures and processes by addressing issues and risks
  • Utilize proven employee management solutions to improve productivity and efficiency
  • Ensure high quality standards in the laboratory by establishing and maintaining SOPs and routine maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure that environmental requirements are met at the federal, state, and local government levels

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Minimum Education: BA/BS in a science related discipline

Minimum Experience: 3 years’ work experience in laboratory management in an R&D research laboratory.

Minimum Field of Expertise: Experience in QC and good laboratory practices, laboratory and inventory organization experience and documentation skills and wet lab and technical bench knowledge.

Preferred Education: Master’s degree in a science related discipline

Preferred Experience: 5 years’ work experience in laboratory management in an R&D research laboratory.

Preferred Field of Expertise: Strong problem-solving, training, team building, and mentoring abilities. Experience with Laboratory Information Management System integration into laboratory workflows and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Salary: $75,000-$112,289 DOE
