Elliot Health System is Hiring a RESPIRATORY EDUCATOR Near Manchester, NH

  • POSITION SUMMARY
    • Demonstrates knowledge and competence in respiratory care specialty and through the provision of education, training and support, guides quality respiratory care and increases staff clinical competence.
    • Provides a wide range of respiratory care services to patients, ranging from neonates to geriatric age groups, as directed by physician’s orders in all settings. Works independently as a licensed clinician.
  • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Collaborates with department manager, staff and other educational resources to develop, implement, and monitor departmental orientation, competencies, and educational programs.
    • Provide just-in-time education to staff related to patient care, new equipment, new policies & procedures.
    • Support staff through routine rounds and communication.
    • Provides skillful guidance and teaching to promote evidence-based care of patients, families, groups of patients.
    • Provides in-services to to other departments/disciplines as needed.
    • Meet with new respiratory care staff and oversee orientation, meeting regularly with new staff member & preceptor.
    • Assists the Manager in documentation of staff educational requirements.
    • Collaborates with a member of Clinical Education & Professional Development in the development of orientation tools, simulations and competencies, as well as needs assessments and implementation of training.
    • Participates in new product evaluation; recommends and evaluates new products designed to improve patient outcomes.
    • Develops policy and procedures related to evidence based practice and delivery of safe patient care.
    • Coordinates clinical student rotations with affiliating accredited Respiratory Care education programs to provide a clinical experience for students.
    • Maintains clinical competencies and ability to assume a patient care assignment.
    • Uses effective communication skills, supporting departmental and organizational goals and influencing change processes.
    • Facilitates team building and problem solving when identified changes are needed.
    • Participates and leads staff in quality improvement initiaitves.
    • Demonstrates leadership on a professional level, maintaining appropriate competencies and involvement in activities internal and external to the organization.
    • Serves as a clinical role model and can performs all duties of a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in the delivery of patient care to all ages.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative; good judgment and problem solving skills
    • Ability to apply principles of adult learning
    • Ability to search for, interpret, and utilize evidence
    • Model skilled communication, true collaboration, effective decision-making, meaningful recognition, and authentic leadership, as described in “Establishing and Sustaining Healthy Work Environments,” AACN, 2005
  • EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
    • Education: Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care required. Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Care or Bachelor's Degree in a closely related field required. Masters prepared in a related field preferred.
    • Experience: Minimum of four years of clinical respiratory care experience in routine, acute, and emergency care areas required. Previous educator experience preferred.
    • Licensure/Certification: National Board of Respiratory Care RRT; current State of New Hampshire Respiratory Care Practitioner License; BLS.
    • Software/Hardware: None
  • OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Schedule: Primarily assigned to cross cover both day/night shifts with occassional requirements to work weekends or variable shifts. Required to take call, work overtime and work holidays. Periodic overnight travel for seminars, coverage for institution activities, or presentation of institution programs.
    • Other: Will be able to assume a patient care assigment
