Elizabeth Seton Children’s is Hiring a Speech Therapist Near Yonkers, NY

Responsibilities

Purpose of Position:

This is a salaried, exempt staff SLP position. Purpose of this position is to provide evaluation, individual treatment to assigned residents. Complete all necessary documentation to (evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, adaptive equipment justification letters, etc) attend and report at all care plan meetings. Provide clinical supervision to SLP students. Consult with other disciplines and family as necessary.

Job Function and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation of resident population for current level of functioning, formulate therapeutic goals and implement treatment programs for the children residing in the pediatric center.
  • Responsible for all documentation regarding their assigned caseload which shall include but is not restricted to evaluation reports, feeding evaluations, treatment records, discharge summaries and all other pertinent information as assigned by the clinical supervisor.
  • Conduct initial evaluation and ongoing evaluation of resident’s upon physician order.
  • Responsible for providing monthly SLP statistics in a timely fashion.
  • In-service staff members on resident’s therapeutic programming including but not limited to feeding, play skills development, speech language development and hearing.
  • Attend all team meetings pertinent to the treatment and programming of residents on treatment schedule. Will inform team members regarding clinical observations, goals and effectiveness of therapeutic programming. This will ensure a comprehensive team approach for the resident under their care.
  • Attend and participate during In-House Audiology Clinic providing the Audiologist with information regarding the patient’s history, assist in the testing and to follow up with the prescribed recommendation.
  • Evaluate the need and effectiveness for specialized feeding equipment, auditory trainers, passy muir valves, or augmentative communication devices.
  • Participate in all clinics that affect the treatment of the children assigned to their caseload i.e., adaptive equipment clinic, ENT clinic, and In-House Audiology clinic
  • To monitor proper maintenance of existing of adapted equipment i.e. AAC devices, adapted therapeutic feeding equipment, etc.
  • To continually upgrade skills through attendance at professional seminars and courses.
  • Participate in the New Hire Orientation Program providing educational programs on a variety of topic s including but not limited to: therapeutic feeding, adapted equipment, audiology clinic and other areas of SLP.
  • As assigned by the clinical supervisor, interview and assess prospective student’s ability to successfully complete a practicum experience. Provide supervision to Graduate student clinicians during practicum experiences. Inform supervisor of student’s progress throughout the practicum experience.
  • To establish a relationship and communication with outside school therapists treating our children and disseminate this information to all specific care meetings i.e. plan of care, orthopedic clinic, physiatry clinic, wheelchair clinic and adapted equipment clinic.
  • Develop feeding programs that ensure adequate nutrition and hydration using specialized equipment, seating systems for feeding, and modified diets. The therapist has the option of participating in Modified Barium Swallow Studies i.e. video fluoroscopic studies to determine if a child is safe to eat or drink by mouth.
  • Participate in and attend the in-service education to enhance clinical and professional competence.
  • Carry out standards for customer service; quality improvement; professional development; environmental, safety and infection control practices; confidentiality, corporate compliance and all other Pediatric Center policies and procedures; attend all mandatory in-services to ensure regulatory compliance and best practices in working with residents and their families.
  • Provide brief update on resident’s care plan and report to team at Plan of Care and Physiatry meetings.
  • Attend all interdisciplinary meetings in accordance with the policies at the Pediatric Center.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.

Qualifications

Education and Licenses/Certification Requirements:

  • Masters Degree – Speech Language Pathology

  • NYS SLP License

  • NY Teacher of Speech and Hearing Certification

  • ASHA certification preferred

Experience

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience with 1 year of pediatric experience

  • Knowledge of normal vs. abnormal language development

  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities and feeding
