Elizabeth Seton Children’s is Hiring a Nurse Manager Near Yonkers, NY

Responsibilities

Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is ensure standards of professional practice are developed and maintained on a 24 hour basis, 7 days a week to achieve excellence and continuity in resident care. The Nurse Manager will be responsible for leading the clinical care for a Neighborhood at the Elizabeth Seton Children's Center. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the leadership, direction, supervision, evaluation, hiring and termination of all nursing staff assigned to their Neighborhood. In addition, they will participate in the evaluation of per diem staff that has been assigned to their floor.

The Nurse Manager will work in collaboration with the Central Nursing Office to maintain staffing levels on each floor that are consistent with resident need, including needs as defined by their Plan of Care, schedules, clinic visits and school programs. The Nurse Manager, with the guidance of Talent Management, and the Chief Nursing Officer will be responsible for preparing progressive discipline for the purpose of achieving consistency of performance and high quality care for our residents. Coaching and counselling will be used to assist a staff member to improve their performance and provide them guidance and a plan to do so.

The Nurse Manager will demonstrate a commitment to the continuum of care for our residents, through participating in and promoting nursing practice while in the John A Coleman School and through follow up with collaborating hospitals in the case of transfer. The Nurse Manager will participate in budget preparation for staffing and supplies and equipment. Consistent with our Mission and the philosophy of child/family centered care, the Nursing Manager will work with colleagues to identify opportunities for improvement in both process and structure and establish collegial; relationship with other department that foster communication and growth.

The Nurse Manager will function as an advocate for resident and family, intervene and provide leadership and guidance in crises, and in assuring the resident achieves their highest level of functioning within a least restrictive environment. The Nurse Manager serves as a support person for members of the staff and acts as a role model to instill in the staff that patient safety, wellbeing and family collaboration are the hallmarks of clinical nursing excellence.

 Position Functions and Responsibilities: Nurse Manager

  • Promotes Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center’s Mission and Core Values of Respecting and Embracing Diversity, Excellence, Collaboration, Innovation, Evolution, Growth and Change and Loving Relationships by bringing these values to life in the organization.
  • Supports a clinical practice environment where staff are able to provide excellent care for the residents and families promoting the ESCC theme “children come first”.
  • Creates and supports an environment of staff engagement and involvement to support a professional practice environment.
  • Establishes relationships with family (and or guardians) that support family-centered care, excellent communication and ensures ongoing education and training of families. Encourages the participation of families in the care of their child while a resident in the center.
  • Assure that staff schedules are consistent with residents needs and provide the accountability of established standard of care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Manage daily staffing in coordination/collaboration with the Central Nursing Staffing Team. Further ensures that staffing is consistent with the requirements of the Pediatric Center’s union collective bargaining agreement.
  • Establish a schedule for and coordinate Neighborhood meetings. Assure that information is disseminated to all appropriate parties.
  • Participate in the establishment and/or review of center wide policies, procedures and regulatory requirements and assure all team members are knowledgeable in these areas.
  • Provide written and oral reports concerning resident comprehensive care plans, care procedures, including identification of clinical “best practices” that can be shared among Neighborhoods.
  • Facilitate the group process for the purpose of maintaining standards of care, compliance to the care planning process and establishment of daily clinical rounds.
  • Ensure a restraint free environment for the residents in the neighborhood.
  • Is knowledgeable and enforces infection control policies and procedures.
  • Assures that all practices for the John A. Coleman School and The Pediatric Center meet regulatory compliance and is completed in a timely manner.
  • Establishes and maintains a systematic process for ensuring the ordering, distributing, administration and documentation of all mediations and tube feedings are done in accordance with Center policy and procedure.
  • Participates in pharmacy committee and actively seeks resolution to problems noted in the medication administration area using the QAPI process, including medication incident reporting and Root Cause analysis.
  • Works in collaboration with QI to assure documentation for the nursing process including, but not limited to, daily and monthly notes, MDS and care plans, 24 hour Neighborhood report, admission, discharge and teaching records are consistently completed in a timely manner. Ensures all documentation is objective, meets SDOH and other regulatory requirements and is consistent with Center policy and procedure.
  • Monitors and manages time and attendance of Neighborhood staff.
  • Assesses, on a continual basis, and in an objective manner, the resources needed to effectively manage and uphold standards of care excellence on the Neighborhood. Seeks, in a timely basis, any resources that are needed, including supplies, equipment, engineering and /or housekeeping support.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of progressive disciplinary process for both bargaining unit, and non-bargaining unit employees. Utilizes the progressive disciplinary process, including coaching and counseling, to assure staff is continually receiving feedback regarding performance and that improvement in performance is identified and monitored in a timely, professional manner.
  • Demonstrates understanding of policies that monitor and follow up any resident care issues, family complaints or variation from SDOH regulation and/or Center policy. This includes, but is not limited to, The New York State Resident Abuse and Neglect reporting regulations.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with mentor, department heads, colleagues and Director of Nursing to assure problems are solved and opportunities for improvement are identified and plans to correct problems or improve services are implemented in an interdisciplinary manner.
  • Collaborates with off shift and weekend supervisory personnel to assure consistency of practice across all three shifts on a continual basis.
  • Provides supervisory “house coverage” as needed.
  • Attends clinical status report and communicates information effectively to members of the Neighborhood
  • In collaboration with Clinical Educators identify and provide in-service training and education to staff in accordance with resident and family needs.
  • Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by your supervisor, department director, and/or administrator.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing or related field.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • New York State Nursing License.

Experience

Experience:

  • At least two years pediatric experience, 5 years of nursing experience.
  • Three years of Management/Supervisory experience.
