Elgin Fastener Group is Hiring a Quality Engineer Near Wheeling IL 60090, IL

Quality Engineer

Work within the Multiple Departments verifying product quality to customer specific or regulatory requirements. The Quality Engineer position includes responsibilities in process inspection, receiving inspection, final audit inspection, and performing quality planning activities such as generating in process inspection protocols, as needed.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS AND SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

As Directed by Supervision:

  1. Generate Gage Control reports detailing gages which are overdue, or due in the current month. Develop schedule to keep Gage control on track.
  2. Set up, clean and calibrate testing and measuring equipment. Update Gage Control records as needed, as well as ensuring gages are properly identified with appropriate calibration stickers.
  3. Establish techniques for proper examination of product under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations.
  4. Sort, document, and report on NCM as directed. Prepare, or oversee the preparation of 8D, or equivalent, corrective action documents in a timely manner and with appropriate containment, investigation, planning for corrective activities, follow up of implementation, analysis of effectivity, and customer satisfaction with response. Report discrepancies, complete non-conformance reporting documentation and enter data into spreadsheets or ERP system as directed.
  5. Perform in-depth analysis of Customer purchase orders to ensure all requirements are understood, can be met, and are communicated to internal employees and outside supplier personnel. Prepare for, participate in, and as needed, present at, Contract Review meetings.
  6. Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards.
  7. Organize, prepare test report(s) results, and send to customer as needed. Under supervision of Quality Manager produce certifications for shipments when required.
  8. Perform review and acceptance of outside processing and or raw material certifications, under supervision of Quality Manager. Scan and file both electronically and hard copy. Conduct receiving inspection of raw materials, materials returning from outside processing as directed by the QA Manager and or production schedule
  9. Create ballooned drawings, inspection Protocols, and embed quality requirements in Epicor (ERP system).
  10. Generate portions of, or a complete, PPAP package. Prepare PPAP’s, or oversee the preparation of them, following customer specific guidelines, including as requested, IMDS electronic submissions. Follow up with customer to ensure satisfaction and timely approval/release of product. Develop tracking means to ensure PPAP’s are completed on timely basis.
  11. Interface daily with management about work priorities and progress of projects. Generate Monthly/Periodic Reports for management or customer review as directed/trained by Quality Manager.
  12. Conduct in process inspection requirements
  13. Conduct final audit of finished product and paperwork prior to customer shipment including working with customer source or government/military inspectors to release shipments.
  14. Complete necessary certification reports/paperwork for all product inspected.
  15. Contributes to team effort by civil communication, cooperation, willingness to share information, training others and developing processes of continuous improvement in quality and operation areas.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quality / Mechanical engineering preferable.
  • Fastener experience a plus.
  • Ability to use Microsoft suite products.
  • Strong experience using ERP systems (Epicor experience a plus)
  • Ability to Analyze KPI data, Report Results, Understand Technical Publications and Standards, Develop and Promote Process Improvement, Develop Inspection Methods and Document Procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Operate computer and keyboard; able to use phone; sit for long periods; communicate using speech, hearing and vision skills. Moderate lifting - no greater than 40 lbs.; moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping and grasping. No fine manipulation or fine manual dexterity required. Ability to stand for a full shift in addition to walking, climbing stairs and bending as required.
