Teacher - Academic Mentor $70k Annually (Full-Time and Summer positions for Teachers)

Do you have the passion and experience working with at-risk, dis-engaged, and dropped out high school students?

The Elevated Education process engages students in a meaningful way to empower each student’s learning journey. Our mentoring program cultivates a sense of community and success that inspires our students to stay engaged and become productive citizens after graduation through post-secondary education or engagement in the workforce.In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Maintain a caseload of students who have previously dropped out of High School but have committed to re-enrolling and graduating.
  • Develop and implement student Individualized Learning Plans.
  • Monitor progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students questions, concerns, and needs
  • Assists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; works with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success
  • Helps students in identifying, developing and implementing learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials
  • Compile and enter data on services provided, including number of students contacted, mentored and results achieved.
  • Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop academic success
  • Participate in events, including Open Houses, Forums, recruiting sessions, etc.
  • Work closely with faculty, parents and others concerned with academic engagement and student success.
  • Provide assistance navigating, recommending, and placing students in an appropriate academic setting and institution.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to stay current on program requirements and advising trends.
  • Conduct proactive outreach and monitor assigned students’ progress toward completing their educational goals.
  • Employ technology-enabled advising, mentoring, and data.
  • Conduct outreach (e.g. phone calls, texts, emails) to students in support of retention-based programming efforts and facilitates/participates in workshops and events designed to assist students with orientation, educational options exploration resources, transferring, academic planning, use of support services, etc.
  • Supporting and mentoring students who have disengaged from the education system and are unsure of the path forward.
  • Supporting and mentoring students through the death or incarceration of a parent or close family member.
  • Supporting and mentoring homeless students and finding them resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English (required)
  • One year tutoring or teaching experience.
  • One year experience in student advising\mentoring function or related area in an educational setting, preferably at the High School level is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience which provide an applicant with the listed knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job is acceptable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and patiently with students requiring individual assistance or special accommodations and to motivate students to improve.
  • Must be knowledgeable of mentoring and educational techniques and able to provide assistance specifically designed to address the needs of at-risk students.
  • Requires time management skills appropriate to working in a fast paced entrepreneurial environment providing a variety of services.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse students and staff.
  • Computer skills with in-depth knowledge of using popular MS applications
  • Experience using HubSpot CRM or similar CRM a plus
  • Experience using Softphone applications like Aircall a plus
