A successful Fiber Splicer will properly terminate, splice, and preps fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system. Will know telecommunication network structure; familiar with fiber optic cable, splice enclosures, and functionality of each; perform OTDR and test fusion splicing equipment. Can read and interpret existing fiber matrices; troubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal problems.

Primary responsibilities include the ability to splice/test/repair cables/wires in both indoor and outdoor settings, read, create, and maintain splicing diagrams, maintain activities surrounding the assigned work site(s), and take splicing field notes.

Responsibilities

• Test, activate, and troubleshoot equipment after installation

• Performs tasks associated with the electronic upgrade and splicing of cable

• Basic daily maintenance of provided vehicle: check fluids, clean and organize vehicle

• Self-supervise all operations to ensure that all splicing operations are completed per customer and industry specifications.

• Safely operate and use a bucket truck to complete daily construction assignments as needed (potentially climb poles)

• Field train and control/oversee the work of other Splicers when necessary.

• Complete daily production reports, and mark-up maps, keep track of work hours, complete "as-built maps" for areas built, and track daily production

• Reconcile all issued parts and materials daily to ensure accurate material usage counts.

• Frequently work independently

• Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Must have previous experience splicing fiber optic

• Own basic hand tools

• Ability to distinguish colors

• Must be able to read and build from blueprints and/or wire diagrams

• Have knowledge of telecommunications network structure

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

• Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position

• Ability to work in emergencies at night, on holidays, and on extended days

• Must be able to work nights and weekends, if necessary

• Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to complete detailed written and oral instructions.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Starting pay begins at $25.00-30.00 per hour, depending on experience.
