Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Inc. is Hiring a Pharmacy Technician Near Worcester, MA

The Edward M, Kennedy Community Health Center in Worcester, MA is looking for Pharmacy Technicians to join our team! We are looking for dedicated pharmacy technicians who are passionate about customer service, our organizational mission, and building strong patient relationships.

Summary:

Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department not requiring the professional judgment of the pharmacist. Technicians must function in strict accordance with standard and written procedures and guidelines with deviation approved by the supervising pharmacist. Organizational relationships include being directly responsible to the pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients in dropping off written prescriptions and picking up filled prescriptions, verifying the correct patient is picking up the correct medication.
  • Assist the pharmacist by correctly entering prescriptions, including refills, into the computer, adjudicating through insurance, filling and labeling prescriptions. Operate and use appropriate techniques within systems for storage, preparation, and dispensing of medications and follow the Health Center’s policies regarding medication preparation and labeling, controlled substances reconciliation, and purchasing of pharmaceuticals and supplies.

Additional Job Functions:

  • Counting, pouring, and measuring medications.
  • Assist the pharmacist in the retrieval of accurate, concise, applicable and timely drug information.
  • Obtain patient insurance information utilizing available resources when required and verifying insurance when applicable.
  • Work with pharmacy benefit managers to process rejected prescriptions through insurances.
  • Assist the pharmacist with the transfer of prescriptions between pharmacies (certified only).
  • Answer phones to process refills and answer patient questions.
  • Completing cash register transactions ensuring register is reconciled with receipts as scheduled.
  • Updating patient profile information within the designated electronic health record system.
  • Work with all pharmacy staff to maintain correct inventory levels, including the ordering of medications as well as removal from shelves, and inventory correction, of outdated medications.
  • Fill order requisitions from health center departments, to include pricing out the requisition and reordering inventory as necessary.
  • Perform other duties and work assignments as assigned by the supervisor including attendance of requested department, center, and outside meetings and/or trainings.
  • Works a fluctuating work schedule including day, evenings and a Saturday shift.

Required Qualifications:

  •  High school diploma or equivalent.
  •  Pharmacy Technician registration required in accordance with Massachusetts Regulations.
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years Pharmacy Clerk or Pharmacy Technician experience.
  •  National Pharmacy Technician certification.
  •  Bilingual English/Spanish, English/Portuguese, or English/Other.
