Veterinarian
Eau Claire Humane Association is looking for a self-motivated veterinarian skilled in working with a diverse team of professionals and providing high quality medical care in a fast-paced environment.
The candidate must demonstrate an aptitude in shelter medicine and surgical proficiency. The position provides prompt and quality veterinary services to all animals within ECCHA’s care.
This position will work closely and collaborate with Director of Animal Care to provide medical care to the approximately 1,500 dogs and cats that enter ECCHA each year.
ECCHA has been saving more that 94% of the population for the past three years and takes pride in putting animal welfare first.
This position is flexible 2-3-day, depending on the needs of the shelter. ECCHA estimates between 16 – 20 hours per week for the care of our animals. This position would begin late summer of 2024 after the new surgical suite is finished.
Medical Duties
· Create new veterinarian program at ECCHA for treatment of all animals in the shelter’s care
· Start and complete medical treatment and prescriptions for shelter animals
· Perform high volume spay and neuter surgeries on dogs and cats with varying temperaments, sizes, and ages.
· Perform pre-surgical exams on animals to determine if they are healthy enough for spay/neuter and determine appropriate plan of action if they are not approved for surgery
· Perform additional minor surgeries
· Manage complications and/or emergencies that arise from surgical procedures.
· Practice low stress, fear free handling protocols.
· Assist with the review and creation of medical, surgical, pain management, and anesthetic protocols
· Mentor staff and support a learning environment in order to continue to advance the medical department.
· Assist with continuing education presentations and trainings for staff to enhance medical knowledge.
· Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Compensation
The position will be compensated based on experience. Compensation will be hourly.
