POSITION SUMMARY

East Side House Settlement (ESH) is a community resource in the South Bronx. We believe education is the key that enables all people to create an economic and civic opportunities for themselves, their families and the communities.

East Side House’s Early Childhood programs provide Early Head Start and Head Start services in a safe, supportive, educational environment for children ages 18 months to 5 years of age. Serving 231 children daily from five locations, the comprehensive program is designed to develop the cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills of children in a safe, supportive environment. Children and families receive a broad range of educational, nutritional, social and preventive health services. Our staff foster partnerships with families so that they can support school learning and achievement as well as advocate for their children and themselves. We expect that all staff will work collaboratively, and with the community, to promote school readiness while creating a safe, healthy and protective environment.

Essential Functions:

Duties include, but are not limited to the following key activities

  • The Family Services Coordinator will assist the Assistant Director of Family Service in all aspects of the family services component; supervise Family Workers in each center, assure that all family and health files are up to date, monitor and review all work assignments and assure completion in a timely fashion.
  • Assisting in the planning and conducting of Family Service meetings and trainings.
  • Understanding and promoting Head Start/Early Head Start Family Development principles and the Performance Standards.
  • Directing and assisting staff in the recruitment, screening and enrollment process of eligible families.
  • Developing annual updates of community social service resources for Head Start families and staff.
  • Overseeing in the implementation of community building and outreach projects such as the Health Advisory Committee and other multi-agency projects.
    1.  Acting as a liaison between community agencies, Head Start families and staff.
  • Coordinating and monitoring Family Services referrals and follow-ups.
  • Overseeing and conducting home visit schedules, home visits, follow up and compliance.
  • Promoting preventive health and early intervention services to families.
  • Promoting active parent involvement in the Head Start/Early Head Start Program.
  • Assisting staff in linking families to an ongoing health care system and assists family in assuming responsibility for the health care of their children.
  • Overseeing and participating in goal setting and family assessment.
  • Complete and submit monthly attendance reports for all sites to the Director of Family Services
  • Oversee and conduct elections/meetings/parent training for the various parent committees/councils.
  • Serving as a program representative during meeting and events.
  • Support community residents, parents and program participant’s active involvement in agency community building efforts as well as complete tasks necessary to move these efforts forward including serving on community building committees as assigned by supervisor.
  • Conduct ChildPlus audits of Family Worker’s family files.
  • Submit ChildPlus reports to the Assistant Director of Family Services on enrollment, health tracking, attendance, expiring documentation etc.

Qualifications & Competencies


Required Education and Experience

• Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited College in a social/human services field

• Two years or more of experience in community or social service field

• Computer literate with good oral and written communication skills

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position. General work schedule for this position is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Workdays/hours subject to change based on ESH’s needs. Possible work on weekends, holidays or after work hours for projects, special events, etc. to meet program operational goals.

Remote Work

ESH has determined that up to zero(%) of this position can be remote due to COVID-19. Subject to change as public health conditions evolve.

Travel

Director will be expected to travel between sites.
