Food preparation for only up to 14 clients maximum.

The Chef/Cook position must develop a keen awareness of their resident’s needs, as well as their particular likes and dislikes as far as food is concerned. This would include paying attention to such things about a resident’s intolerances for specific ingredients and other special dietary requirements, as well as what their favorite meals are and which ones they are not particularly fond of. Among culinary duties, the chef will also have resident interactions and must maintain professional boundaries and inform counseling staff of any specific therapeutic issues that may arise.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide individual consultation with residents to determine appropriate meal planning and to consider dietary needs
  • Knowledgeable of nutritional needs specifically related to addiction
  • Provide education and practical tools to residents regarding meal planning, nutrition, budgeting, and food prep
  • Instruct life skills experiential cooking course weekly
  • Available to listen and support the residents and direct them to counseling support as necessary
  • Collaborate with clinical staff regarding resident observation, eating patterns, response to dietary intervention etc.
  • Plan weekend meals and leave food ready for weekends in coordination with the Executive Director and or Program Director.
  • Make purchases (as needed) with emphasis on buying quality food from the best cost-efficient stores. With that in mind, looking for upcoming weekly specials to become aware about lower cost options for items on the purchase list.
  • Develop nutritious and varied menus; be creative and innovative when designing weekly menus so that residents find meals appealing.Weekly menus should not be repetitive.
  • Work with the Intake Department and/or the Program Director to account for upcoming intakes and discharges, to plan the amount of food/supplies needed for the week. Purchase lists must be based on current and upcoming census. For example, if we have 9 residents on a Monday but 5 of them are discharging between Tuesday and Wednesday we cannot buy food for 9 residents for the whole week.
  • Avoid waste and keep it at a very minimum. This involves keeping the refrigerator clean and organized, with items that expire earlier visible and ready to use; appropriate labeling of foods with dates; avoid purchasing large volume of items that are not consumed regularly; etc. Re-assess menu options based on available food that needs to be consumed in the next few days.
  • Transport food supplies not needed at one location (due to low census, for example) to the other location where they can be used, as applicable.
  • Be a team member by assisting in maintaining the professional boundaries of the Treatment/Detox program in regards to residents, fellow staff members and our overall culture.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Competencies:

  • Ability to multi-task, delegate tasks, manage resident care, maintain facility standards.
  • Desire to assist those with chemical dependency in their recovery

Education:

  • Minimum High School Graduate or GED.

Experience:

  • One year of experience in food preparation and planning preferred.
  • Prior experience in detox environment highly desired.

Certificates & Licenses:

  • Certificate in Food, Nutrition and Health
  • ServSafe Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPR/First AID

Other Requirements:

  • Negative TB test results within past six months
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screenings and random drug screenings

  • Meal preparation, installing water containers for consumption, and shopping as necessary including pushing of carts and carrying grocery boxes/bags.
  • Conducting garbage disposal, recycling, and collection.

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
