The Role
Director - External Communications. As the first hire onto the external communications team, this role offers the opportunity to elevate our brand and build a strong public relations strategy to solidify Dyno as the leading gene therapy platform company. We are looking for a mission-driven, creative, and clear communications leader that is passionate about creating powerful messages and storylines to reach and inspire broad audiences.
This role is ideally located at Dyno's headquarters in Watertown, MA but we are flexible to remote work from any US location with some travel to Watertown, MA required.
How You Will Contribute
As Director - External Communications you will be responsible for shaping and leading Dyno's external communications strategy and execution in collaboration with leaders across the organization. This role will partner closely with the CEO, Executive Team, and others to ensure consistent messages that reinforce Dyno's priorities, values, and mission. The communications strategy supports the corporate goals and ensures integrated and consistent communication across all stakeholder groups including existing and potential biopharma partners, the AI/ML and biotechnology communities, and our investors. This role will report to the Head of Corporate Development and will also work closely with People Team members that lead internal communications.
Responsibilities:
- Build the external corporate communications function from the ground up, developing and executing an integrated external communications strategy
- Design and compile a library of messages and materials (e.g., press releases, talking points, statements, Q&As) that effectively communicate Dyno's innovative strategy clearly to external audiences
- Cultivate strong media relations, including proactively developing new angles and story lines to drive media interest and coverage for Dyno and its leadership team
- Identify, curate, and secure speaking / thought leadership opportunities for senior leaders and assist with written pieces, interviews, and presentation preparations
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members on external-facing materials and events, including investor, medical, industry, and research meetings and presentations, to ensure consistency with the company's approved messages
- Oversee and partner with external agencies to grow corporate presence / brand via existing and new digital channels, including an optimized and measurable social media strategy that can effectively reach key audiences
- Manage and further develop Dyno's corporate website, in collaboration with agency partners
- Work closely with Talent Acquisition to help design an external communications strategy to support recruiting goals

Basic qualifications
- BA/BS degree with 10 years of marketing or communication experience in a healthcare or biotechnology company
- Proven ability to speak the language of a biotechnology company and break down complex scientific concepts into understandable messages and stories for external audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to build and maintain relationships with company executives, media, and other internal and external stakeholders
- Exceptional research, writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
- A successful track record of media relations and placements, including a solid list of relevant contacts
- Must have the proven ability to advise senior leaders effectively
- Must have superior organizational skills, along with a demonstrated ability to think strategically and critically and consistently exercise sound judgment
- Proven track record of coordinating multiple programs simultaneously, moving projects forward, and developing and implementing creative, solution-oriented strategies while anticipating future demands and opportunities
