Job Title:  General Super Intendent

Direct Reports: Spider Operators and Spider Assistants

Reports To: Director of Operations

Compensation Type: Hourly

Position Summary: The General Superintendent serves as a member of the Operations Team and reports to the Director of Operations. The position’s primary responsibility is to ensure operational effectiveness by planning and executing complex and strategic projects. They also assist other Spider Operators with these tasks. At the direction of the Director of Operations, General Superintendents travel to key projects that are complex or underperforming. They assist with hiring of Frontline personnel, crew training, and individual career progression planning. They also have the responsibility to oversee their assigned job sites; keeping quality, efficiency, and timelines on target to complete the job on schedule and within budget. General Superintendents are responsible for training, safety, and communication to Project Leadership Team on issues or needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Dyer’s safety, production, and quality standards are met.
  • Fully understand Dyer’s core values while reinforcing and improving Dyer’s culture by setting the example for all to follow.
  • Continually develop and improve Dyer’s standard operating procedures (SOP); ensure crews are executing to these standards.
  • Initiate new ways of improving Dyer equipment and cultivate innovation in the company.
  • Participate in construction planning meetings for designated jobs and crews.
  • Execute pre-construction site visits on all assigned projects.
  • Assist project teams in development of Weekly Lookahead Plans.
  • Execute complex and strategic projects.
  • Review daily logs for accuracy and project photos for quality control of designated crews.
  • Lead, guide, and mentor crew members in proper construction means and methods, equipment operation, safety, and environmental control practices.
  • Provide on-site support to Spider Operators and Assistants on low performing or complex projects.
  • Assist in hiring for regional frontline crew members and managing personnel issues.
  • Assist in implementation of information systems and ensure proper crew usage. (i.e. Raken, Power Apps, etc.)
  • Ensure new processes and procedures are understood and followed by frontline personnel.
  • Assist with semi-annual performance reviews and help mentor employees.
  • Participate in project turnovers ensuring project plan at estimate is transferred into the execution phase.
  • Participate in project debriefs and responsible for communicating lessons learned on each designated project.
  • Ensuring equipment is cleaned, well maintained and appropriate documentation is completed (i.e., electronic checklists and project closeout checklists) on all designated projects.
  • Training and mentoring new spider operators and spider assistants.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Director of Operations to promote successful operations.

Language Skills: The responsibilities of this job require one’s ability to read, speak, and write in English. The employee needs to be able to read and understand technical manuals, project documents, and contractual agreements, as well as complete required paperwork and task specific activity logs. The employee will also provide direct instructions and convey subject-matter expertise to subordinates prioritizing safety, quality, production – in that order always.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk, hike with weight(50lbs), sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Ascends/descends ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and works in confined spaces and in proximity to loud machinery. Must be able to position one-self to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics and tunnels. Recognizes exposure to live circuits and/or operating machinery.

  • Applicant must be able and willing to travel 70% of the time domestically to visit projects.
  • Climates vary from -40 degrees to plus 110 degrees Fahrenheit, in tropical to desert environments.
  • Employee will experience drastic elevation changes from sea level to above 10,000 ft.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate and hearing protection is often required.
