Overview

We are currently searching for a Senior Scientist to support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and is onsite in Bethesda, MD.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide research services to the program lab that no other personnel can currently perform or provide i.e., rendering histological and immune-histochemical methods applied to nervous tissue, scanning electron microscopic imaging of nervous tissue, image. analysis of histological tissue, such as scanning, tiling, mending cracks, etc., tissue fixation, slicing, staining, developing, mounting, scanning, and processing neuroanatomical and neuropathological tissues.
• Assist with the basic concepts of image registration and warping, for processing tissue images.
• Must be able to render the following experimental techniques:
  • Dissecting and various types of light microscopy and image acquisition or digitization
  • Epifluorescence and staining methods of neural tissue.
  • Fluorescence light microscopy of fixed tissues expressing various stains and fluorescent proteins.
  • MRI methods that can be used to image fixed tissue
  • Combining, correlating, and integrating histological and MRI methods.

Requirements

• Minimum scientific training would be a Ph.D. or comparable advanced degree in cell or tissue biology or related disciplines, with an expertise in vital microscopy and low field NMR profiling. Minimum of seven (7 ) years of significant post-doctoral research experience.
• Knowledge and experience in neurobiology is a requirement.
• Highly proficient in histological and immunohistochemical methods applied to nervous tissue, scanning electron microscopic imaging of nervous tissue, image analysis of histological tissue, such as scanning, tiling, mending cracks, etc.,
• Must possess expertise in neuroscience, particularly neuroanatomy and neuroimaging, with a capability to integrate this knowledge to MRI data of the same structures and compare and contrast the information content in these two types of image data.
